파주시 중앙도서관이 문화체육관광부가 주관하고 한국문화예술위원회가 주최, 국민체육진흥공단이 후원하는 2026년 문학상주작가 지원사업에 2년 연속 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

이에 따라 중앙도서관은 지난해에 이어 올해도 작가와 함께 시민 대상 문학 프로그램과 창작 지원 활동을 본격적으로 운영할 계획이다.

이번 사업을 위한 작가 선정은 지난 3월 9일부터 23일까지 진행된 온라인 매칭박람회를 통해 이뤄졌으며, 총 20명의 작가가 지원한 가운데 심사를 거쳐 장경선 작가가 최종 선정됐고 장경선 작가는 지난해에 이어 두 번째로 중앙도서관 상주작가로 활동하게 된다.

문학상주작가 지원사업은 작가가 도서관에 상주하며 지역 주민을 위한 문학 프로그램을 기획하고 운영하는 동시에 창작활동을 병행할 수 있도록 지원하는 사업이며 이를 통해 시민들에게는 문학 향유 기회를 확대하고, 작가에게는 안정적인 창작 환경과 일자리를 제공하는 데 목적이 있으며, 선정 기관에는 상주작가 인건비와 프로그램 운영비 등이 지원된다.

장경선 작가는 1997년 3월 계간 자유문학 청소년단편소설 문학상 수상으로 등단했으며, 폴란드의 비밀양육원, 구름 한 조각, 그 여름의 사할린 등 다수의 작품을 발표해왔고  특히 역사적 배경을 바탕으로 한 어린이와 청소년 대상 소설을 꾸준히 집필해왔으며, 다양한 문학 프로그램을 기획하고 운영해 온 경험을 갖춘 작가로 평가받고 있다.

오는 5월부터 장 작가는 중앙도서관 3층 301호에 상주하며 읽는 사람에서 쓰는 사람으로, 이달의 독서모임, 읽고 쓴 기록, 한 권의 책 등 다양한 프로그램을 운영할 예정이며 이어 중앙도서관 제20회 독서마라톤 사업과 연계해 기존 독서와 서평쓰기 활동을 넘어 문학적 사유와 창작으로 확장하는 새로운 시도를 선보일 계획이다.

Paju Central Library announced that it has been selected for the 2026 Literature Resident Writer Support Program for the second consecutive year. The program is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted by the Arts Council Korea, and sponsored by the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.

Accordingly, following last year, the Central Library plans to actively operate literature programs for citizens and creative support activities in collaboration with the writer this year as well.

The selection of the writer for this program took place through an online matching fair held from March 9 to 23. Out of a total of 20 applicants, writer Jang Gyeong-seon was finally selected following a screening process, marking her second consecutive year serving as the Central Library's resident writer. The Literature Resident Writer Support Program is designed to support writers in residing at libraries, planning and operating literary programs for local residents while simultaneously engaging in creative writing. Its purpose is to expand opportunities for citizens to enjoy literature and to provide writers with a stable creative environment and employment. Selected institutions receive support covering the resident writer's personnel costs and program operating expenses.

Author Jang Kyung-sun made her literary debut in March 1997 by winning the Youth Short Story Award from the quarterly literary magazine Jayu Munhak. She has published numerous works, including *The Secret Orphanage in Poland*, *A Piece of Cloud*, and *Sakhalin in That Summer*. She is recognized as a writer with extensive experience in planning and operating various literary programs, particularly for her consistent writing of novels for children and young adults based on historical backgrounds. Starting this coming May, Author Jang will be based in Room 301 on the 3rd floor of the Central Library and plans to run various programs such as "From Reader to Writer," "Monthly Reading Club," "Record of Reading and Writing," and "One Book." Following this, in conjunction with the Central Library's 20th Reading Marathon project, he plans to introduce a new initiative that expands beyond existing reading and book review writing activities into literary thought and creation.
