경기북부보훈지청은 지난 4월 9일, 제8기동사단에서 거행된 ‘6·25 전사자 유해발굴 개토식’에 참석해 호국영령의 넋을 기리고 발굴 현장에 투입되는 장병들을 격려했다.

이번 개토식은 2026년도 유해발굴 사업의 본격적인 시작을 알리는 자리로, 6·25전쟁 당시 나라를 지키기 위해 목숨을 바쳤으나 아직까지 가족의 품으로 돌아가지 못한 전사자들을 찾기 위한 발굴 작전의 안전과 성과를 기원하기 위해 마련됐다.

국방부 유해발굴감식단과 군 장병들은 오는 4월 13일부터 5월 22일까지 약 6주간 포천시 소흘읍 이곡리 일대에서 집중 발굴 작전을 실시한다. 

해당 지역은 6·25전쟁 당시 치열한 전투가 벌어졌던 곳으로 알려져 있으며, 단 한 분의 유해라도 더 찾기 위한 정밀한 조사와 발굴 작업이 진행될 예정이다.
