국가보훈부 경기북부보훈지청이 제11회 서해수호의 날을 맞아 참전유공자와 청소년이 함께한 전적지 순례 프로그램을 성황리에 마무리했다.

경기북부보훈지청은 지난 3월 27일부터 29일까지 2박 3일간 전적지 순례 프로그램 「오늘을 지킨 평화, 함께 걷다」를 운영했다고 밝혔다. 

이번 행사는 서해수호 55용사의 숭고한 희생을 기리고 참전유공자의 헌신을 미래세대에 계승하기 위해 마련됐다.

순례에는 참전유공자 29명을 비롯해 청소년, 보훈외교단 대학생 등 총 150여 명이 참여했다. 

세대가 함께하는 구성으로 진행된 이번 프로그램은 참가자 간의 소통을 통해 평화의 가치를 공유하는 데 의미를 더했다.

참가자들은 첫 일정으로 국립대전현충원에서 열린 서해수호의 날 기념식에 참석해 묘역을 참배하며 호국영령들의 넋을 기렸다. 

이어 연천 유엔군 화장장터, 동두천 자유수호평화박물관, 노르웨이 외과병원 등 경기 북부 지역 주요 전적지를 방문하며 역사 현장을 직접 체험했다.

특히 이번 순례에서는 의정부시청소년수련관 소속 대학생들로 구성된 보훈외교단이 주도적인 역할을 맡아 눈길을 끌었다. 

이들은 사전 학습을 바탕으로 전적지의 역사적 의미를 직접 해설하고, 참가자 간 교류 프로그램을 기획·운영하며 현장 중심의 보훈 활동을 이끌었다. 

일부 프로그램에서는 청소년이 또래 참가자들에게 해설을 진행하며 공감과 이해를 높이는 모습도 이어졌다.

참가 청소년들은 전적지에서 추모 활동에 참여하고 역사적 의미를 공유하며 단순한 견학을 넘어 ‘기억하는 경험’을 쌓는 시간을 가졌다. 

이러한 과정은 세대 간 공감대를 형성하고 보훈의 가치를 자연스럽게 체득하는 계기가 됐다.

경기북부보훈지청은 이번 행사가 참전유공자와 미래세대가 함께 소통하는 세대 연계형 보훈 프로그램의 성공적인 사례라고 평가했다. 

아울러 청소년이 주도적으로 참여하는 보훈 활동의 확장 가능성도 확인했다고 밝혔다.

The Northern Gyeonggi Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs has successfully concluded a battlefield pilgrimage program for war veterans and youths in celebration of the 11th West Sea Defense Day.

The Northern Gyeonggi Regional Office announced that it operated the battlefield pilgrimage program, titled “The Peace That Defended Today, Walking Together,” for three days and two nights from March 27 to 29.

This event was organized to honor the noble sacrifice of the 55 Heroes who defended the West Sea and to pass on the dedication of war veterans to future generations. A total of approximately 150 people participated in the pilgrimage, including 29 war veterans, as well as youths and university students from the Veterans Affairs Diplomacy Corps.

As their first itinerary, the participants attended the West Sea Defense Day ceremony held at the Daejeon National Cemetery, where they paid respects at the graves and honored the spirits of the fallen heroes.

Following this, they visited major battle sites in the northern Gyeonggi region, including the Yeoncheon UN Forces Crematorium, the Dongducheon Freedom Defense Peace Museum, and the Norwegian Surgical Hospital, experiencing historical sites firsthand.

Notably, the Veterans Affairs Diplomacy Corps, composed of university students from the Uijeongbu City Youth Training Center, played a leading role in this pilgrimage.

In some programs, youths were seen explaining the history to their peers, fostering empathy and understanding. Furthermore, they stated that they confirmed the potential to expand veterans' activities in which youth take the lead.
