고양특례시가 6일 오전 10시 고양시 현충공원에서 제71회 현충일 추념식을 엄숙히 거행하며 순국선열과 호국영령의 숭고한 희생정신을 기렸다.

이번 추념식은 나라를 위해 헌신한 순국선열과 호국영령을 추모하고 국가유공자와 유가족에 대한 감사와 존경의 마음을 전하기 위해 마련됐다.

이날 행사에는 이동환 고양특례시장을 비롯해 고양시의회 의장, 지역 국회의원, 도·시의원, 보훈단체장, 국가유공자 및 유가족, 시민 등 650여 명이 참석해 호국영령의 넋을 기렸다.

추념식은 국민의례를 시작으로 오전 10시 정각 전국에 울려 퍼진 묵념 사이렌에 맞춰 1분간 순국선열과 호국영령에 대한 묵념이 진행됐다. 

참석자들은 경건한 분위기 속에서 고개를 숙이며 나라를 위해 희생한 이들의 넋을 추모했다.

이어 헌화 및 분향, 이동환 시장의 추념사, 헌시 낭독, 현충일 노래 제창 순으로 행사가 진행되며 추모의 의미를 더했다.

이동환 시장은 추념사를 통해 보훈의 가치와 국가 안보의 중요성을 강조했다.

이 시장은 “오늘의 추모가 단순히 과거를 기리는 데 그치지 않고, 따뜻한 보훈과 강한 안보를 위한 새로운 다짐을 되새기는 자리가 되길 소망한다”며 “대한민국의 위대한 유산을 물려주신 호국영령과 국가유공자 여러분께 깊은 경의를 표한다”고 말했다.

이어 “오늘의 평화를 누릴 수 있도록 든든한 버팀목이 되어주신 보훈가족 여러분께도 머리 숙여 깊은 감사와 존경의 마음을 전한다”고 덧붙였다.

추념식에 참석한 시민들은 현충일 노래를 함께 제창하며 순국선열들의 희생정신을 되새기고 나라 사랑의 의미와 평화의 소중함을 다시 한번 가슴에 새기는 시간을 가졌다.
