하루 종일 대지를 적신 봄비도 불자들과 시민들의 뜨거운 구법(求法)의 열기를 막지 못했다. 

고양특례시의 밤하늘은 형형색색 연등의 물결로 환하게 빛났고, 시민들은 빗속에서도 하나 된 마음으로 부처님오신날의 의미를 되새겼다.

고양시불교사암연합회(회장 대덕스님)가 주최한 ‘불기 2570년 부처님오신날 기념 연등제’가 지난 20일 덕양구 화정중앙공원에서 성황리에 개최됐다. 

이날 행사에는 궂은 날씨에도 불구하고 500여 명의 불자와 시민들이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.

행사장 곳곳에는 우비와 우산을 든 시민들의 발걸음이 이어졌고, 참가자들은 비 내리는 날씨 속에서도 밝은 표정으로 축제를 즐기며 화합의 시간을 보냈다.

이번 연등제는 전통 불교문화와 시민 문화축제가 어우러진 다채로운 프로그램으로 진행됐다.

축제의 시작은 고양문화원 행주취타대의 장엄한 행진과 육법공양이 알렸다. 

이어 봉축 법요식이 엄숙하고 경건한 분위기 속에서 봉행되며 부처님의 자비와 평화의 의미를 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.

2부 문화공연에서는 대중가수 에녹과 유지나 등 인기 예술인들이 무대에 올라 시민들과 함께 호흡하며 축제의 열기를 더했다. 

비가 계속 내리는 상황에서도 공연장은 뜨거운 박수와 환호로 가득 찼고, 시민들은 연등 아래에서 특별한 봄밤의 추억을 만들었다.

이번 연등제의 백미는 단연 제등행렬이었다. 

참가자들은 각자의 소망과 서원을 담은 연등을 손에 들고 화정중앙공원을 출발해 화정역 문화광장까지 행진했다. 

빗속에서도 힘차게 울려 퍼진 취타대의 가락과 함께 흔들리는 연등 행렬은 도심 한복판을 거대한 빛의 물결로 수놓으며 장관을 연출했다.

행렬의 종착지인 화정역 광장에는 12m 높이의 대형 연등봉축탑이 설치돼 시민들의 눈길을 사로잡았다. 

참가자들은 봉축탑 주위를 함께 도는 탑돌이를 진행하며 개인의 안녕과 가족의 평안, 고양시의 발전을 기원했다.
