파주시 문산도서관이 소설가 신주희를 상주작가로 맞아 오는 5월부터 11월까지 7개월간 시민 참여형 문학 프로그램을 펼친다.

지난해 9월 문을 연 문산도서관은 이번에 문화체육관광부 '2026년 문학상주작가 지원사업' 수혜 기관으로 처음 이름을 올렸으며 이를 발판 삼아 도서관은 작가와 지역 주민을 연결하는 문학 거점으로 도약을 꾀한다.

도서관 측은 '관찰'을 올해 프로그램의 중심 키워드로 내세웠다. 

평화 특화 운영 기조를 유지하면서, 일상·타인·지역을 찬찬히 들여다보는 행위가 상호 이해의 첫걸음이라는 철학을 담았고 강연, 독서 모임, 전시 등 다양한 방식을 통해 시민 누구나 평화 감수성을 가꿀 수 있도록 판을 짰다.

상주작가로 낙점된 신주희는 2012년 계간 「작가세계」로 문단에 나온 뒤 소설집 「모서리의 탄생」·「허들」, 장편 「영과 영원」·「친애하는 나의 종말」, 에세이 「수거물 폐기물」·「너는 네 인생이 마음에 드니?」 등 폭넓은 장르를 넘나들며 꾸준히 작품을 발표해 왔으며 이효석문학상 우수상(21·24회)에 이어 올해 백릉 채만식문학상을 품에 안으며 작품성을 재확인했다.

신 작가는 5월부터 문산도서관에 자리를 잡고 집필과 시민 강좌를 병행하며 상반기 프로그램으로는 온라인 연재 '서가 관찰록', 참여형 강연 '문장 냉장고', 독서 모임 '오독오독', 글쓰기 수업 '일상 수집가의 에세이 쓰기'가 준비돼 있고 하반기에는 주민이 직접 추천 도서를 낭독·녹음하는 '문산도서관 소리서가'와 창작자 초청 행사 '어느 관찰자의 초대'가 뒤를 잇는다.

이인숙 문산도서관장은 "이 사업은 작가에게는 창작 환경을, 시민에게는 문학과 가까워지는 기회를 동시에 제공하는 가교 역할을 한다"며 "신주희 작가와 주민이 도서관에서 일상을 나누고 읽고 쓰는 기쁨을 함께 누리길 바란다"고 밝혔다.

Paju Munsan Library Joins Novelist Shin Ju-hee on a 7-Month Literary Journey

First Selection for Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Resident Writer Program; Launching 6 Programs Including Performances, Book Clubs, and Writing Workshops

Paju Munsan Library has welcomed novelist Shin Ju-hee as its resident writer and will present citizen-participatory literary programs for seven months, running from this coming May to November.

Opened last September, Munsan Library has been named for the first time as a beneficiary institution for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's "2026 Resident Writer Support Program." Using this as a springboard, the library aims to leap forward as a literary hub connecting writers with local residents.

The library has set "Observation" as the central keyword for this year's programs.

Maintaining its operational focus on peace, the program embodies the philosophy that the act of carefully observing daily life, others, and the local community is the first step toward mutual understanding. It has structured the curriculum to allow any citizen to cultivate a sensitivity toward peace through various methods, including lectures, book clubs, and exhibitions. Shin Ju-hee, selected as the writer-in-residence, made her literary debut in 2012 with the quarterly *Writer's World*. Since then, she has consistently published works spanning a wide range of genres, including the short story collections *The Birth of a Corner* and *Hurdle*, the novels *Spirit and Eternity* and *My Dear End*, and the essays *Collected Waste* and *Do You Like Your Life?*. Following the Excellence Award at the Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award (21st and 24th editions), she has reaffirmed the quality of her work by winning the Baekneung Chae Man-sik Literary Award this year.

Author Shin will be based at Munsan Library starting in May, combining writing with lectures for citizens. Programs for the first half of the year include the online serial *Shelf Observation Log*, the participatory lecture *Sentence Refrigerator*, the reading group *Odok Odok*, and the writing class *Essay Writing by an Everyday Life Collector*. The second half will feature *Munsan Library Sound Shelf*, where residents read and record recommended books, and the creator invitation event *Invitation from an Observer*.
