파주시가 주민들과 함께 범죄 취약지역을 안전한 생활공간으로 바꾸기 위한 '파주형 여성안심거리' 조성 사업을 본격적으로 추진한다.

파주시는 지난 2일 운정4동 행정복지센터 다목적센터에서 '2026년 파주형 여성안심거리 시민정책디자인단' 발대식을 개최하고 공식 활동을 시작했다고 밝혔다.

시민정책디자인단은 지난 6월 15일부터 24일까지 공개모집을 통해 선발된 운정4동 주민과 지역 활동가 15명을 중심으로 구성됐다. 

여기에 안전 설계 전문가 2명과 파주경찰서 범죄예방 담당 경찰관, 파주시 여성가족과 관계자 등이 참여해 총 20명의 민·관·경 협력체계를 갖췄다.

이번 사업의 대상지는 야당역 3번 출구 인근 다가구주택 밀집 지역이다. 

해당 지역은 최근 인구가 크게 늘었지만 골목길 조명 부족 등으로 야간 보행에 대한 주민들의 불안감이 지속적으로 제기돼 온 곳이다.

시민정책디자인단은 오는 7월부터 9월까지 총 8차례 현장 활동을 진행한다. 

참여단은 야간 시간대 대상 지역을 직접 걸으며 조명 상태와 사각지대 등 범죄 취약 요소를 점검하고, 주민들의 의견을 수렴해 불안 지점 지도와 보행 동선 정리표를 작성하는 등 현장 중심의 안전 진단을 실시할 예정이다.

파주시는 시민정책디자인단이 도출한 개선 사항을 2027년 여성안심 귀갓길 환경개선 사업의 설계와 예산에 반영할 계획이다. 

이를 통해 골목길 조명 확충, 안내 사인물 설치, 안전시설물 보강 등 주민들이 체감할 수 있는 환경 개선을 추진한다는 방침이다.

김영미 파주시 여성가족과장은 "밤길의 위험 요소를 가장 잘 아는 지역 주민이 직접 참여해 대책을 마련하는 것이 이번 사업의 핵심"이라며 "앞으로도 시민들이 일상에서 안전을 체감할 수 있는 생활밀착형 안전 정책을 지속적으로 추진해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

한편 파주시는 여성친화도시 조성의 일환으로 범죄 취약지역 환경 개선 사업을 꾸준히 추진해 왔다. 

2022년에는 야당역 3번 출구 일원을, 2023년에는 문산 자유시장 일원을 대상으로 환경 개선을 실시했으며, 2025년에는 탄현면 약산공원 일대에 조명과 바닥 유도등을 설치하는 등 안전한 보행환경 조성에 힘써왔다. 

이번 운정4동 사업 역시 주민 참여를 기반으로 한 지역 맞춤형 안전 모델로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.

Paju City announced that it held an inauguration ceremony for the '2026 Paju-style Women's Safety Street Citizen Policy Design Team' at the Multipurpose Center of the Unjeong 4-dong Administrative Welfare Center on the 2nd and has officially begun its activities.

The Citizen Policy Design Team is composed of 15 residents of Unjeong 4-dong and local activists selected through an open recruitment process held from June 15 to 24.

In addition, two safety design experts, a police officer in charge of crime prevention at the Paju Police Station, and officials from the Paju City Women and Family Division are participating, forming a collaborative system of 20 members comprising the public, private, and police sectors.

The target area for this project is a densely populated multi-family housing area near Exit 3 of Yadang Station. Paju City plans to incorporate the improvements identified by the Citizen Policy Design Team into the design and budget for the 2027 Women's Safe Return Home Environment Improvement Project.

Through this initiative, the city intends to implement tangible environmental improvements for residents, such as expanding alleyway lighting, installing informational signage, and reinforcing safety facilities.
