파주시가 역점 추진 중인 파주메디컬클러스터 내 대학병원 유치 사업이 새로운 전기를 맞았다.

종합병원 설립 공모에 학교법인 조선대학교가 단독으로 사업계획서를 제출하면서 시민들이 오랫동안 기대해 온 대학병원 건립 사업이 본격적인 추진 단계에 접어들 전망이다.

사업시행자인 파주메디컬클러스터㈜에 따르면, 지난 6월 30일 공모 접수를 마감한 결과 조선대학교가 최종 참여한 것으로 확인됐다.

현재 호남 지역에서 조선대학교병원을 운영 중인 조선대학교는 권역 의료거점으로서 중증질환 진료, 응급의료, 전문 진료 체계 등에서 풍부한 역량을 갖춘 상급종합병원 재단이다.

파주시는 사업시행자인 파주메디컬클러스터㈜가 지난 6월 30일 종합병원 유치 공모 접수를 마감한 결과, 학교법인 조선대학교가 최종 사업계획서를 제출했다고 밝혔다.

학교법인 조선대학교는 현재 광주에서 조선대학교병원을 운영하고 있으며, 중증질환 치료와 응급의료, 전문 진료체계를 갖춘 상급종합병원 운영 경험을 보유하고 있다. 

이러한 의료 역량을 바탕으로 경기북부 의료서비스 확대에 나서겠다는 구상이다.

이번 공모 참여는 최근 의료계 전반의 어려운 여건을 감안하면 더욱 의미가 크다는 평가다. 

의정 갈등 장기화에 따른 의료인력 확보 문제와 병원 경영 부담, 공사비 상승, 고금리 등으로 신규 병원 건립을 추진하기 쉽지 않은 상황이 이어지고 있기 때문이다.

여기에 파주시는 인구 55만 명을 넘어서는 성장세를 보이고 있지만, 인접한 고양시에 대형 종합병원이 다수 위치해 있어 대학병원 분원 유치가 쉽지 않은 지역으로 꼽혀왔다.

그럼에도 조선대학교가 공모에 참여한 것은 경기북부 지역의 필수의료 기반 확충과 파주메디컬클러스터의 발전 가능성을 높게 평가한 결과로 해석된다.

조선대학교가 제안한 사업계획에 따르면 파주에 들어설 병원은 500병상 규모로 조성된다. 

응급의학과를 비롯해 심장혈관흉부외과, 산부인과, 소아청소년과 등 필수의료 분야를 포함한 25개 진료과를 운영할 계획이며, 총사업비는 약 5,500억 원 규모에 달한다.

파주메디컬클러스터㈜는 이달 중 의료와 경영, 건축 등 분야별 전문가로 평가위원회를 구성해 사업계획서 심사를 진행할 예정이다. 

심사 결과를 토대로 우선협상대상자를 선정한 뒤 세부 협의를 거쳐 최종 사업협약을 체결할 계획이다.

파주시는 대학병원 유치가 확정될 경우 지역 의료 접근성 향상은 물론 응급·중증의료 서비스 강화와 함께 메디컬클러스터 조성에도 큰 시너지 효과를 가져올 것으로 기대하고 있다.

파주시 관계자는 "의료계가 어려운 여건 속에서도 대학병원 유치 공모에 참여한 것은 매우 고무적인 성과"라며 "시민들의 숙원인 대형 종합병원 건립이 차질 없이 추진될 수 있도록 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않겠다"고 말했다.

According to the business plan proposed by Chosun University, the hospital to be built in Paju will have a capacity of 500 beds.
