고양시민들의 오랜 불편으로 지적돼 온 일산IC와 장항IC 일대의 교통 정체 해소를 위한 개선 사업이 본격 추진될 전망이다. 

민경선 고양특례시장 당선인이 직접 현장을 찾아 교통 흐름을 점검하고, 직결램프 신설과 차로 확장 등 실질적인 개선 방안을 제시하며 출퇴근 시간 단축에 나섰다.

민 당선인은 지난 29일 일산IC와 장항IC를 차례로 방문해 상습 정체 구간의 교통 흐름을 점검하고 관계 실무자들과 함께 현장 중심의 개선 대책을 논의했다.

우선 일산IC에서는 수도권제1순환고속도로에서 빠져나와 중앙로(일산 방향)로 진입하는 구간의 고질적인 병목현상 해소에 초점을 맞췄다. 

현재 이 구간은 고속도로를 빠져나온 차량과 중앙로 본선 차량이 짧은 거리에서 뒤섞이는 데다, 호수로 방향으로 진입하려는 차량들이 좌회전 차로로 집중되면서 극심한 정체가 반복되고 있다.

이를 해결하기 위해 민 당선인은 일산IC 덕양방면 램프와 호수로를 직접 연결하는 직결램프 신설 방안을 검토하도록 지시했다. 

시는 사업의 적정성과 규모, 총사업비 등을 종합적으로 검토하기 위한 타당성조사 용역을 추진할 계획이며, 기존에 논의됐던 단방향 진출램프뿐 아니라 향후 교통 수요 증가에 대비한 양방향 통행 방안도 함께 비교 검토할 예정이다. 

또한 사업 승인과 재원 분담 등을 위해 관계 기관과의 협의도 적극 추진할 방침이다.

민경선 당선인은 "일산IC에서 나온 차량이 중앙로를 거치면서 기존 차량들과 뒤섞여 심각한 병목현상이 발생하고 있다"며 "일산IC와 호수로를 직접 연결하는 램프가 설치되면 교통량이 분산돼 시민들의 출퇴근 시간이 크게 단축될 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.

이어 방문한 장항IC에서는 자유로를 통해 호수로로 진입하는 차량이 집중되면서 발생하는 상습 정체 문제를 집중 점검했다. 

현재 호수로 방향 좌회전 차로는 2개뿐이어서 출퇴근 시간대 차량이 몰릴 경우 긴 대기 행렬이 이어지는 상황이다.

민 당선인은 현장에서 좌회전 차로를 기존 2개에서 3개로 확대하는 방안을 제시하고, 실무진과 함께 도로 구조 변경 가능성과 사업 추진 방안을 면밀히 검토했다. 

또한 시민들이 체감할 수 있는 교통 개선 효과를 조기에 거둘 수 있도록 신속한 추진을 당부했다.
