6·25전쟁, 축석령전투에서 조국을 위해 장렬히 산화한 호국영령들의 숭고한 희생을 기리는 추모행사가 의정부에서 엄숙하게 거행됐다.

경기북부보훈지청은 지난 26일 의정부지구전투기념비에서 열린 '제76회 축석령전투 추모행사'에 참석해 6·25전쟁 당시 나라를 지키기 위해 목숨을 바친 호국영령들의 넋을 기리고, 희생과 헌신의 정신을 되새겼다고 밝혔다.

이번 추모행사는 육군 제8기동사단이 주관했으며, 6·25전쟁 초기 전략적 요충지였던 축석령을 사수하기 위해 적 전차를 상대로 육탄 공격을 감행한 당시 대대장 고(故) 김풍익 중령과 고 장세풍 중령을 비롯한 포병결사대원 11인의 위국헌신 정신을 기리기 위해 마련됐다. 

올해로 76회를 맞은 이 행사는 매년 민·관·군이 함께 참여하며 호국영령들의 희생을 추모하는 뜻깊은 자리로 이어지고 있다.

이날 행사에는 박용주 경기북부보훈지청장을 비롯해 육군 제8기동사단장, 포병연합회장, 참전용사와 유가족, 군 관계자 등이 참석했다.

참석자들은 헌화와 묵념을 통해 조국을 위해 산화한 영웅들의 넋을 기렸으며, 나라를 지키기 위해 모든 것을 바친 이들의 희생정신과 애국심을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.
