4년간 파주 시정을 견제하고 민심을 대변해온 제8대 파주시의회가 공식 임기를 마감했다.

파주시의회는 15일 본회의장에서 제8대 의회 폐원식을 갖고 2022년 7월 출범 이후 이어온 의정활동의 마침표를 찍었다. 

행사는 박대성 의장과 소속 의원들, 최병갑 파주시 부시장, 의회사무국 직원들이 함께한 가운데 의정 경과보고와 재직기념패·감사패 수여 순으로 진행됐다.

제8대 파주시의회는 임기 동안 시민 생활과 맞닿은 지역 현안을 해소하고 민생 기반을 다지는 데 주력했고 조례 제·개정과 시정질문, 5분 자유발언, 행정사무감사 등 다양한 제도적 수단을 동원해 집행부를 꼼꼼히 들여다보며 주민 목소리가 행정에 스며들도록 힘썼다. 

아울러 현장 중심의 발로 뛰는 활동과 연구단체의 정책 분석을 결합해 실질적인 대안을 내놓고, 시민과 허심탄회하게 소통하는 열린 의회상을 추구했다.

박대성 의장은 "4년이라는 시간을 시민과 함께 울고 웃으며 쉼 없이 달려왔는데, 어느새 그 여정이 끝을 향해 있다"면서 "현장에서 보내주신 따뜻한 격려가 의회가 끝까지 소임을 다할 수 있는 원동력이 됐다"고 소회를 전했으며 이어 "동고동락한 동료 의원들과 묵묵히 뒷받침해준 공직자들께 진심으로 감사드린다"며 "앞으로도 파주시의회가 시민의 뜻을 가장 가까이에서 품는 의회로 굳건히 이어지길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.

한편 15명(지역구 13명·비례대표 2명)으로 구성된 제8대 파주시의회는 오는 6월 30일 임기가 공식 종료되며, 후속 제9대 파주시의회는 7월 중 개원할 예정이다.
