고양특례시가 무분별한 생활하수 배출로 인한 하수처리시설 장애를 예방하고 올바른 하수 배출 문화 정착을 위해 시민 홍보에 나섰다.

고양시는 지난 12일 덕양구 화정역 일대에서 상하수도사업소와 수질복원센터 직원들이 참여한 가운데 ‘올바른 생활하수 배출 요령’ 홍보 캠페인을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

최근 가정 내 편의를 이유로 불법 주방용 오물분쇄기를 사용하거나 물티슈, 위생용품 등을 변기에 버리는 사례가 증가하면서 하수관로 막힘과 하수 역류 등 각종 문제가 잇따르고 있다. 

특히 주방용 오물분쇄기를 통해 음식물 찌꺼기가 하수관로로 유입될 경우 하수처리시설 운영에 부담을 주고 시설 유지관리 비용 증가와 행정력 낭비를 초래하는 주요 원인으로 지적되고 있다.

이에 시는 시민들의 인식 개선과 생활 속 실천을 유도하기 위해 출근길 시민들을 대상으로 올바른 생활하수 배출 방법을 집중 홍보했다.

이날 캠페인에서는 물티슈와 위생용품, 음식물 찌꺼기 등을 변기에 버리지 말 것과 인증되지 않은 불법 주방용 오물분쇄기 사용을 자제할 것, 폐식용유와 동물성 기름을 하수구에 버리지 말 것 등을 안내했다.

고양시는 이번 캠페인을 계기로 생활하수 배출 문화 개선을 위한 홍보와 계도 활동을 지속적으로 확대할 계획이다. 

아울러 하수관로 막힘의 주요 원인으로 꼽히는 주방용 오물분쇄기의 불법 사용 여부에 대한 정기적인 지도·점검도 병행해 나갈 방침이다.
