고양특례시가 영유아 시기부터 올바른 성평등 가치관을 형성하고 다양성을 존중하는 문화를 확산하기 위해 ‘양성평등 그림책 읽기’ 사업을 본격 추진한다.

고양시는 여성친화도시 시민참여단과 함께 관내 국공립어린이집 원아를 대상으로 한 ‘양성평등 그림책 읽기’ 사업을 지난 10일부터 시작해 오는 10월까지 운영한다고 11일 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 영유아가 성역할에 대한 고정관념에서 벗어나 서로의 다름을 이해하고 존중하는 태도를 자연스럽게 기를 수 있도록 돕기 위해 마련됐다. 

시는 사업 추진에 앞서 수요조사를 실시했으며, 관내 국공립어린이집 17개소를 대상 기관으로 선정했다.

프로그램은 단순한 그림책 낭독에 그치지 않고 아이들이 직접 참여하는 방식으로 진행된다. 

성평등의 가치를 담거나 기존의 고정된 성역할에서 벗어난 다양한 주인공이 등장하는 그림책을 선정해 읽어주고, 책 속 상황과 등장인물에 대해 아이들이 자유롭게 의견을 나누며 다양한 생각을 표현할 수 있도록 구성했다. 

또한 시민참여단 전원이 사전 낭독 교육을 이수해 보다 효과적인 교육이 이뤄질 수 있도록 준비를 마쳤다.

고양시는 이번 사업이 영유아들의 건강한 가치관 형성은 물론 보육 현장의 교사들에게도 성평등한 시각을 확산하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 

아울러 올해 사업 운영 결과를 바탕으로 향후 민간 어린이집까지 대상을 확대하는 방안도 검토할 계획이다.

한편, 고양시 여성친화도시 시민참여단은 시민 중심의 성평등 문화 확산을 목표로 2015년 출범했으며 현재 제6기가 활동하고 있다. 

시민참여단은 올해 상반기 직장어린이집 교재·교구 성인지성 점검과 시청 홍보물 성인지 모니터링 등을 추진했으며, 하반기에는 양성평등 그림책 읽기 사업과 시니어 대상 성인지 역량 강화 사업 등을 통해 전 세대를 아우르는 성평등 문화 확산 활동을 이어갈 예정이다.
