고양특례시가 고령화와 만성질환으로 인해 여러 약물을 동시에 복용하는 취약계층 어르신들의 건강과 안전을 지키기 위해 맞춤형 복약 지원 서비스에 나섰다.

고양시는 의료·요양 통합돌봄 사업의 일환으로 취약계층 어르신의 안전한 약물 복용을 지원하는 ‘고양온돌 약속이음(올바른 복약을 약속해요!)’ 서비스를 본격 시행한다고 18일 밝혔다.

최근 고령화가 빠르게 진행되면서 만성질환을 앓는 어르신들이 늘어나고 있으며, 이에 따라 여러 종류의 약을 동시에 복용하는 사례도 증가하고 있다.

하지만 약물 중복 처방이나 잘못된 복용으로 인한 부작용 위험 역시 커지면서 체계적인 복약 관리의 필요성이 꾸준히 제기돼 왔다.

이에 고양시는 어르신들의 약물 오남용을 예방하고 건강한 노후 생활을 지원하기 위해 전문 약사와 공무원이 직접 가정을 방문하는 맞춤형 복약 관리 서비스를 마련했다.

이번 사업은 고양시 복지정책과 통합돌봄팀이 주관하고 고양시약사회가 협력해 추진된다. 

전문 약사와 담당 공무원이 대상자의 가정을 찾아 복용 중인 약물을 점검하고 복약 상태를 세밀하게 관리하는 방식으로 운영된다.

방문 상담에서는 복합질환으로 인한 약물 중복처방 여부와 약물 간 상호작용 등을 확인하고, 어르신 눈높이에 맞춘 복약 교육도 함께 진행된다. 

또한 유통기한이 지났거나 변질된 폐의약품을 수거·정리해 안전한 복약 환경 조성에도 나선다.

시는 이를 통해 어르신 스스로 약을 올바르게 복용하고 건강을 관리할 수 있는 능력을 키우는 한편, 약물 부작용 위험을 사전에 차단한다는 방침이다.

지원 대상은 통합돌봄 사업 대상자 가운데 만성질환을 1개 이상 진단받고 10개 이상의 약물을 복용 중인 어르신이다. 

특히 의료급여수급자 등 취약계층을 우선 지원하며, 건강보험가입자의 경우 국민건강보험공단의 ‘다제약물관리 사업’과 연계해 복약 관리를 지원할 예정이다.

지난 15일 첫 상담을 받은 한 어르신은 “약사 선생님이 집까지 찾아와 어떤 약을 왜 먹어야 하는지 친절하게 설명해 줘 큰 도움이 됐다”며 “달력에 약 복용법까지 정리해 주어 앞으로는 잊지 않고 잘 챙겨 먹을 수 있을 것 같다”고 말했다.

고양시는 이번 사업이 일회성 지원에 그치지 않도록 지속적인 사후관리 체계도 운영한다. 

1차 방문 상담 이후 약 3개월 뒤 다시 대상자를 찾아 복약 습관 개선 여부를 점검하고, 올바른 투약 습관이 생활 속에 자리 잡을 수 있도록 지속적으로 모니터링할 계획이다.

고양시 관계자는 “앞으로도 시민들이 일상에서 체감할 수 있는 다양한 특화 서비스를 적극 발굴해 나갈 계획”이라며 “거동이 불편한 어르신들이 요양시설이 아닌 살던 곳에서 건강하고 행복한 노후를 보낼 수 있도록 통합돌봄의 가치를 실현해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.
