파주시가 경기도가 주관한 제10회 경기도 환경대상에서 최우수 기관으로 선정됐다. 

2023년부터 2025년까지 3년 연속 '우수 기관'에 오른 데 이어, 올해는 마침내 최우수 기관이라는 정점을 찍으며 경기도를 대표하는 친환경 도시임을 공식적으로 인정받았다.

이번 평가는 경기도 내 31개 시군을 대상으로 정량·정성·종합평가의 3단계 심사를 거쳐 진행됐으며, 파주시는 21개 공통지표 전반에서 고른 고득점을 받으며 두각을 나타냈다.

파주시가 높은 평가를 받은 핵심 요인은 타 지자체와 차별화된 특화 사업에 있다. 

시는 전국 최초로 '환경교육센터'와 '탄소중립지원센터'를 결합한 통합 모델을 구축해 행정 효율성을 극대화했다는 점에서 높은 점수를 받았다. 

또한 경기 북부 최초로 '유아기후환경교육관'을 조성해 미래 세대를 위한 체계적인 조기 환경 교육의 기틀을 마련한 것도 주목받았다. 

아울러 주민자치회와 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하는 등 시민 주도형 탄소중립 실천 문화를 이끄는 민관 협력 거버넌스 모델이 모범 사례로 꼽혔다.

시상식은 오는 9월 열리는 제18회 자원순환의 날 기념행사에서 진행될 예정이다. 

파주시는 이번 수상을 발판 삼아 탄소중립 실천 문화를 더욱 확산해 나갈 방침이다.

박준태 파주시 환경국장은 "이번 최우수 기관 선정은 환경을 생각하는 파주시민과 공직자들이 한마음으로 이뤄낸 값진 결실"이라며 "앞으로도 투명하고 효율적인 정책을 통해 파주시가 대한민국을 대표하는 최고의 환경 혁신 도시로 거듭날 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 말했다.

Paju City Selected as 'Best Institution' at Gyeonggi Environmental Awards… Proving Itself as an Eco-friendly City

Paju City has been selected as the Best Institution at the 10th Gyeonggi Environmental Awards, hosted by Gyeonggi Province.

Following its selection as an 'Excellent Institution' for three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025, the city has finally reached the pinnacle of being named the Best Institution this year, officially receiving recognition as a representative eco-friendly city of Gyeonggi Province.

This evaluation was conducted through a three-stage screening process covering 31 cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province, consisting of quantitative, qualitative, and comprehensive assessments. Paju City distinguished itself by receiving consistently high scores across 21 common indicators.

The key factor behind Paju City's high evaluation lies in its specialized projects that differentiate it from other local governments.

The city received high marks for maximizing administrative efficiency by establishing an integrated model that combines the 'Environmental Education Center' and the 'Carbon Neutrality Support Center,' a first in the nation. In addition, the establishment of the 'Early Childhood Climate and Environment Education Center'—the first of its kind in Northern Gyeonggi Province—has garnered attention for laying the foundation for systematic early environmental education for future generations.

Furthermore, a public-private partnership governance model leading a citizen-led carbon neutrality practice culture, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Residents' Association, was cited as an exemplary case.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place during the 18th Resource Recycling Day commemorative event this coming September.

Using this award as a stepping stone, Paju City plans to further expand its carbon neutrality practice culture.
