파주시가 성매매 집결지 정비와 성평등 인식 확산을 위한 시민 참여형 교육을 이어가고 있다. 

시는 지난 28일 파주읍 연풍리에 위치한 ‘성평등 파주’에서 시민 40여 명을 대상으로 ‘여행길(여성 행복으로 가는 길) 교육’을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 교육은 반성매매에 대한 올바른 인식을 확산하고, 현재 추진 중인 집결지 정비 사업에 대한 공감대를 형성하기 위해 마련된 정기 프로그램이다.

특히 매주 화요일마다 실제 집결지 내 공간에서 진행되는 현장 중심 교육이라는 점에서 참여자들의 몰입도를 높이고 있다.

교육은 성매매 및 성폭력 예방을 위한 기본 개념 정립부터 시작해, 집결지가 형성되고 유지되어 온 사회 구조적 배경을 짚어보는 내용으로 구성됐다. 

이어 해당 지역이 지역사회 전반에 미친 부정적 영향과 정비의 필요성을 공유하고, 과거 집결지의 모습과 현재 변화 과정을 비교할 수 있는 전시 자료 관람이 함께 진행됐다.

참여 시민들은 현장을 직접 보고 듣는 과정에서 문제의식을 보다 생생하게 체감했다는 반응을 보였다. 

한 시민은 “평소 무심코 지나치던 공간이었지만, 설명을 듣고 나니 성착취의 역사와 변화의 필요성이 피부로 와닿았다”며 “지역의 건강한 변화를 위해 어떤 시각을 가져야 할지 고민하게 됐다”고 말했다.

파주시는 단순 강의에 그치지 않고 시민들이 현장을 통해 지역 현안을 입체적으로 이해할 수 있도록 교육 방식을 구성하는 데 주력하고 있다. 

이를 통해 성매매 집결지 폐쇄와 도시 재생이라는 과제를 시민과 함께 풀어나가겠다는 방침이다.

시 관계자는 “여행길 교육은 지역의 아픈 역사를 시민들과 투명하게 공유하고, 성평등이라는 가치를 확산하는 중요한 소통 창구”라며 “앞으로도 다양한 연령과 계층의 시민들이 참여할 수 있도록 프로그램을 지속 확대해 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 ‘성평등 파주’는 파주시 파주읍 연풍3길 55-41에 위치한 시민 교육 및 전시 공간으로, 성매매 집결지 폐쇄 이후 도시 재생과 성평등 가치 확산을 위한 거점 역할을 수행하고 있다.

The city announced that on the 28th, it conducted the ‘Journey (Path to Women’s Happiness) Education’ for approximately 40 citizens at ‘Gender Equality Paju,’ located in Yeonpung-ri, Paju-eup.

Through this, the city plans to work together with citizens to address the challenges of closing prostitution districts and urban regeneration.

A city official stated, “The ‘Travel Route’ education program serves as an important communication channel for transparently sharing the region’s painful history with citizens and spreading the value of gender equality,” adding, “We will continue to expand the program to ensure that citizens of various ages and social strata can participate.” Meanwhile, ‘Gender Equality Paju’ is a civic education and exhibition space located at 55-41, Yeonpung 3-gil, Paju-eup, Paju-si. Following the closure of the prostitution district, it serves as a hub for urban regeneration and the dissemination of gender equality values.
