파주시 중앙도서관이 지역 내 작은도서관의 경쟁력을 강화하고 시민들의 독서 편의를 돕기 위해 우리동네 신간맛집 사업을 본격적으로 가동한다.

지난 23일부터 관내 13개 작은도서관과 협력하여 운영에 들어간 이 사업은 공공도서관에서 대기 수요가 많은 인기 신간을 동네 작은도서관에 우선 지원하는 프로젝트다.

이번 사업은 특정 도서에만 대출 예약이 쏠리는 현상을 완화하고 집 근처 작은도서관 방문을 유도하려는 취지에서 마련됐으며 실제로 지난해 운영 결과 작은도서관 운영진의 85%가 사업 내용에 긍정적인 반응을 보였고 도서관 운영 활성화 측면에서 실질적인 기여도가 높다는 평가를 받았다. 

3년째 이어지는 이 사업은 특히 성인 독자들 사이에서 높은 대출률을 기록하며 지역 사회의 큰 호응을 얻고 있으며 현장 이용객들의 반응도 뜨겁다. 

직장인이나 육아 중인 시민들은 대형 도서관까지 가지 않더라도 마을 안에서 베스트셀러나 신간 도서를 즉시 빌려 볼 수 있다는 점을 가장 큰 장점으로 꼽았으며 주민들의 생활권 안에서 지식 정보를 제공하는 거점 역할을 톡톡히 수행하고 있는 셈이다.

참여 중인 13개 작은도서관은 시민들이 헛걸음을 하지 않도록 온라인 도서 검색 서비스를 지원하고 이용자들은 방문 전 미리 도서 소장 상태를 파악할 수 있으며 상세한 도서 목록과 위치 정보는 파주시도서관 누리집이나 중앙도서관 1층에 마련된 홍보관 마을공감에서 확인 가능하다.
