경기 파주시가 도시의 미래를 설계할 핵심 자문기구인 제15기 도시계획위원회를 공식 출범시키고 본격적인 활동에 돌입했다.

이번 위원회는 총 25명으로 구성됐다. 공개모집을 거쳐 선발된 민간 전문가 21명과 당연직 위원들이 함께하며, 민간위원 수를 이전 기수보다 1명 늘려 현장 전문성을 한층 강화했다. 

특히 파주시가 당면한 토지이용 과제에 대응하기 위해 관련 분야 전문가를 전략적으로 보강했으며, 건축·주택, 교통, 환경, 방재, 경관 등 도시계획 전 영역을 아우르는 다양한 전문가들이 고루 포진했다.

위원회는 2년 임기 동안 도시관리계획의 결정 및 변경, 개발행위허가 등 주요 도시계획 정책을 심의하고 자문하는 역할을 맡는다. 

「국토의 계획 및 이용에 관한 법률」에 근거해 합리적인 의사결정을 뒷받침하는 법적 자문기구로서, 파주시가 추진 중인 파주메디컬클러스터와 운정테크노밸리 등 대규모 개발사업의 완성도를 높이는 데도 핵심적인 역할을 담당하게 된다.

파주시는 현재 신도시 확장과 첨단 산업단지 조성 등 도시 구조 전반의 대전환기를 맞고 있다. 

이 같은 시점에 출범하는 제15기 위원회는 단순한 행정 자문을 넘어 도시의 장기 발전 방향을 가늠하는 '나침반' 역할이 기대된다는 점에서 그 의미가 더욱 크다.

시 관계자는 "풍부한 경험과 높은 전문성을 갖춘 위원들과 함께하게 되어 매우 든든하다"며 "위원들의 깊이 있는 식견과 지혜가 더 나은 파주를 만드는 핵심 동력이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
