파주시가 '대중교통의 날'을 맞아 오는 11일 하루 동안 시내 전 지역 마을버스를 무료로 운행한다.

시는 대중교통 이용 활성화와 시민 교통비 부담 완화를 위해 이번 무료 운행을 실시한다고 9일 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 자가용 이용을 줄이고 대중교통 이용을 촉진해 교통 혼잡 완화와 탄소 배출 저감 등 친환경 교통문화 확산을 도모하기 위해 지난해에 이어 두 번째로 시행된다.

무료 이용 대상은 파주시민뿐 아니라 파주시를 운행하는 마을버스 노선을 이용하는 모든 승객이다.

이용 방법은 간단하다. 

승차 시 현금이나 교통카드 단말기를 찍지 않고 별도 절차 없이 탑승하면 요금이 전액 면제된다. 

하차 시에도 카드 단말기를 찍지 않아야 한다. 

다만 다회 환승으로 환승 시간이 필요한 경우에는 교통카드를 찍고 이용할 수 있다.

박한수 버스정책과장은 "대중교통의 날을 맞아 시행하는 마을버스 무료 이용이 시민들에게 대중교통을 더 친숙하게 이용하는 계기가 되길 바란다"며 "앞으로도 시민 교통 편의를 높이고 효율적인 대중교통 서비스를 제공하기 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다"고 말했다.
