사단법인 영토지킴이독도사랑회와 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 LOHOS봉사단 및 독도사랑봉사단이 필리핀 알베이주 리가오시에서 진행한 5박 6일간의 봉사문화 교류활동을 성공적으로 마쳤다.

이번 활동에는 길종성 독도사랑회 중앙회장, 조태연 LOHOS봉사단장, 김준서 독도사랑봉사단장, 김성한 국제봉사재단 회장, 반지 이반젤리나 킴 이사장 등 대원 20명과 현지 봉사자 200여 명이 참여했다.

2003년부터 리가오시와 인연을 맺어온 독도사랑회는 정기적인 교류를 통해 봉사와 독도 홍보를 병행해왔으며 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 봉사단 역시 오랜 기간 이 활동에 동참하며 국내외에서 나눔을 실천하고 있다.

봉사단은 활동 기간 중 리가오시청과 시의회를 방문하고 LIGIO 지역 주민들과 환경 정화 활동 및 독도 문화체험 행사를 진행했다. 

특히 마카엘초등학교를 방문해 에어컨과 선풍기 등 물품을 후원하고, 급식 지원과 학교 담장 페인트 도색 봉사를 펼쳤으며 또한 현지 어린이들과 함께 독도는 우리땅 노래에 맞춘 무용과 페이스페인팅, 풍선아트 등을 즐기며 화합의 시간을 가졌다.

행사 마지막 날에는 리가오 지역 나무 심기 활동에 이어 지역 주민들과 함께하는 독도 체험 공연과 수료식이 열렸고 이 자리에서 리가오 시장과 국제봉사재단은 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 봉사단원들에게 표창장과 감사장을 수여했다.

국제봉사재단 반지 이반젤리나 킴 이사장은 진정성 있는 활동에 감동했다며 봉사를 통해 독도를 알리는 활동은 필리핀 국민들에게도 영토의 소중함을 일깨워주는 교훈이 된다고 전했다.

동국대 WISE캠퍼스 길종구 교수는 봉사를 통해 독도를 알리는 일석이조의 활동에 단원들의 만족도가 높다며 지난 2007년 리가오시 판단 지역에 동국인의 거리를 지정하고 기념비를 세운 것에 이어 이번 활동이 민간외교의 위상을 높이는 계기가 되었다고 평가했다.

길종성 독도사랑회 중앙회장은 실질적이고 진심 어린 봉사가 진정한 나눔이라며 기부와 나눔은 정서적 신념과 공존의 가치에서 나오는 만큼 앞으로도 국내외에서 봉사를 통한 독도 알리기를 지속적으로 실천하겠다고 밝혔다.
