파주시가 설 명절을 앞두고 전통시장 방문객들에게 쾌적한 이용 환경을 제공하기 위해 대대적인 하수시설 정비에 나선다.

시는 2일 관내 전통시장과 주요 하수시설을 대상으로 준설작업을 실시한다고 밝혔다. 

작업은 오는 10일부터 12일까지 3일간 진행된다.

이번 준설작업은 명절 연휴 기간 전통시장 이용객 증가가 예상됨에 따라 하수관로 내부 퇴적물을 제거하고 배수 기능을 개선해 악취 발생과 침수 등 시민 불편을 사전에 차단하기 위한 조치다.

준설 대상 지역은 문산 자유시장, 봉일천 전통시장, 금촌 전통시장, 적성 전통시장 일원이다. 

시장 내부와 주변 하수관로를 중심으로 집중 작업이 이뤄진다.

아울러 시는 설 연휴 전까지 전통시장뿐 아니라 하수도 민원이 반복 발생했던 지역의 주요 하수관로와 맨홀펌프장도 함께 정비할 계획이다.

특히 겨울철에는 가정과 상가에서 배출된 유지류가 낮은 기온으로 하수관로 내부에서 굳어지면서 관로 막힘 현상이 발생하고, 이로 인해 오수가 도로로 넘치는 사고가 빈번하게 일어나고 있다.

이에 따라 시는 주요 하수관로와 맨홀펌프장에 대한 주기적 사전 점검과 유지관리를 실시하고, 준설작업을 통해 하수시설 기능을 안정적으로 유지함으로써 시민 불편과 안전사고를 예방한다는 방침이다.

박준태 환경국장은 "이번 설 명절 대비 준설작업은 전통시장을 이용하는 시민들의 불편을 최소화하고 안전한 명절 환경을 조성하기 위한 것"이라며 "앞으로도 생활과 밀접한 지역을 중심으로 하수시설 관리에 철저를 기하겠다"고 말했다.
