파주소방서가 외국인 근로자를 중심으로 한 자율소방대를 꾸려 산업단지 화재 안전망 강화에 나섰다.

파주소방서는 20일 오후 4시 파주시 문산읍 선유산업단지 내 스페이스톡에서 외국인 근로자 자율소방대 발대식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

선유산업단지에는 현재 117개 제조업체가 입주해 있으며, 약 300명의 외국인 근로자가 상주하고 있다. 

대형 창고와 공장이 밀집한 구조 특성상 화재 발생 시 대규모 피해가 우려되는 상황이다.

이에 파주소방서는 겨울철 화재위험이 높아지는 시기를 맞아 산업단지 내 자율적 안전관리체계 구축이 시급하다고 판단, 스페이스톡·신도산업·한울생약 등 3개 기업 소속 외국인 근로자 22명으로 자율소방대를 구성했다.

자율소방대는 화재 취약 시간대 순찰과 초기 대응을 주요 임무로 한다. 

발대식에서는 소화기, 자율소방대 조끼, 전자 경광등 등 필수 장비가 전달됐으며, 소방시설 점검 방법과 화재 발생 시 행동요령 등 실무 중심 안전교육도 진행됐다.

파주소방서와 선유산업단지사업협동조합은 이날 공동선언문을 통해 △협력체계 구축 △화재위험요소의 체계적 관리 △정기 교육과 안전문화 확산 △지역사회 안전 파트너로서의 책임 이행 등 4가지 항목을 약속했다.

파주소방서는 맞춤형 안전지도와 교육을 지속 추진하고, 조합 측은 자율적 안전관리를 충실히 이행하기로 했다.

김명찬 파주소방서장은 "머나먼 타국에서 건너와 낯선 환경 속에서도 자율소방대원으로 책임을 다하는 외국인 근로자들의 참여는 산업단지 안전관리의 새로운 전환점"이라며 "이들의 자발적 참여는 화재 등 재난 초기 대응의 실효성을 높일 뿐 아니라, 사업장 전체의 안전의식 향상과 지역 산업 발전에도 큰 힘이 된다"고 말했다.

김 서장은 이어 "앞으로도 민관이 함께 만드는 자율안전관리 체계를 더욱 확대해 나가겠다"고 덧붙였다.
