파주시의회는 1월 19일부터 23일까지 5일간의 일정으로 2026년 병오년 새해 첫 임시회를 개회했다.

이번 임시회는 19일 제1차 본회의를 시작으로 20일부터 22일까지 3일간 상임위원회별 2026년도 시정운영 전반에 관한 업무보고를 청취한다. 

또한 조례안 등 민생과 밀접한 일반안건 등을 처리한 뒤 23일 제2차 본회의를 끝으로 폐회할 예정이며 이번 회기 중 처리될 안건은 조례안 29건, 건의안 1건, 예비비 사용내역 보고 6건, 기타 안건 1건 등 총 37건이다.

제1차 본회의에서는 손성익 의원이 5분 자유발언을 통해 반복되는 파주시 아동학대 근절을 위한 대책 마련을 강력히 촉구했다. 

손 의원은 시립 어린이집의 관리 감독 강화와 수사 지연에 따른 대책을 요구하며 선제적 조치로 피해 학급에 숙련된 외부 인력을 투입하는 서포트 교사 즉시 배치, 원장과 학부모 간 갈등 해소를 위한 중재 전문가 배치, 피해 아동 및 가족과 교직원을 위한 심리 케어 지원을 제안했으며 이어 아동학대 사례결정위원회의 투명한 운영과 훈육 가이드라인의 명확한 정립을 통해 파주시가 부모와 교사 사이의 신뢰를 회복하는 역할을 해야 한다고 강조했다.

박대성 의장은 개회사를 통해 제8대 파주시의회의 남은 임기 동안 지역경제 활성화와 소외계층에 대한 배려, 시민의 삶의 질 향상을 위해 마지막까지 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔다.

또한 박 의장은 이번 임시회가 2026년의 시정 방향을 설계하는 첫 회기인 만큼 의정활동의 중심에 시민의 뜻이 온전히 반영될 수 있도록 대의기관의 역할을 충실히 해나갈 것을 당부했다.
