파주시가 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획 수립을 앞두고 시민과 함께 철도사업의 필요성을 공유하는 대규모 토크콘서트를 개최했다.

파주시는 지난 10일 임진각 DMZ생태관광지원센터에서 '시민과 함께하는 철도 토크콘서트'를 열고, 파주시 핵심 철도사업의 국가계획 반영을 위한 시민의 뜻과 시의 의지를 대외적으로 천명했다고 11일 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 기존 토론회와 달리 시민들의 생활 속 이야기와 생생한 목소리를 중심으로 진행됐다는 점에서 주목받았다. 

전문가 중심의 일방적 발표가 아닌, 시민 참여형 소통 방식으로 파주 철도의 필요성과 향후 발전 방향을 함께 모색했다.

시는 행사에 앞서 지난 10월 16일부터 11월 9일까지 25일간 온라인으로 시민 의견을 수렴했으며, 2,600여 명이 넘는 시민이 참여하며 파주 철도에 대한 높은 관심을 입증했다.

김경일 파주시장은 이날 직접 토론자로 나서 "중첩규제로 인한 철도사업 추진 제약 등 제도적 문제점을 개선해야 한다"며 파주 철도사업과 교통 체계 개편의 미래 비전을 제시했다. 

교통 전문가 출신인 김 시장은 구체적인 데이터와 정책 방향을 제시하며 전문성을 드러냈다.

토론자로 참여한 최진석 철도경제연구소장, 오동익 ㈜티랩교통정책연구소 대표, 양광식 순천향대학교 교수는 한목소리로 파주 철도사업의 중요성을 강조했다.

이들은 "접경 지역인 파주는 오랜 기간 국가를 위해 큰 희생을 감내해 온 지역"이라며 "향후 한반도 교통·물류 거점으로서 높은 잠재력을 지닌 도시로, 파주 철도사업은 지역 발전을 넘어 국가적으로도 매우 중요한 과제"라고 입을 모았다.

파주시는 이번 행사를 계기로 철도사업의 필요성과 시민 염원을 지속적으로 확산시키고, 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획에 파주시 핵심 사업이 반영될 수 있도록 적극 대응해 나갈 방침이다.
