일산서부경찰서가 첨단 드론 기술을 활용한 아동 성폭력 예방 활동에 나섰다.

일산서부경찰서는 28일 오전 KDC한국드론센터와 협업해 상탄초등학교 일대에서 드론을 활용한 등굣길 안전 순찰을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

등교 시간대에 맞춰 진행된 이번 활동은 최근 아동 대상 범죄에 대한 사회적 우려가 커지는 가운데, 학생들이 직접 체감할 수 있는 안전망 구축을 위해 기획됐다.

경찰은 이날 드론을 투입해 학교 주변을 실시간으로 감시하며 순찰 활동을 펼쳤다. 

드론은 도보나 차량 순찰에 비해 넓은 시야를 확보할 수 있고 단시간에 광범위한 지역을 순찰할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.

특히 상공에는 "성폭력 OUT!" 문구가 적힌 9미터 길이의 대형 비행선을 띄워 등교하는 학생과 학부모들의 관심을 끌었다. 

이는 범죄 예방 효과와 함께 안전에 대한 경각심을 높이는 효과를 거뒀다는 평가다.

KDC한국드론센터 오석봉 이사는 "드론 기술이 아이들의 안전을 지키는 공공의 역할로 활용될 수 있어 뜻깊다"고 소감을 밝혔다.

박현숙 여성청소년과장은 "범죄 예방 활동에 드론을 활용해 치안 사각지대를 해소함으로써 주민들이 느끼는 불안감도 상당히 감소할 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.

경찰은 이번 활동을 시작으로 드론을 활용한 학교 주변 안전 순찰을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 방침이다.
