고양시재향군인회가 주최·주관한 ‘제12회 고양시민과 함께하는 호국보훈문화제’가 지난 10월 25일 일산호수공원 한울광장에서 약 1만 명의 시민이 참여한 가운데 성황리에 개최되었다.

이날 행사는 순국선열과 국가유공자의 희생을 기리는 엄숙한 취지 아래, 시민들이 직접 보고 느끼는 다채로운 참여 프로그램으로 구성되어 큰 호응을 얻었다. 

오전 11시부터 시작된 시민참여 프로그램에서는 K2전차, K9자주포, 다연장 로켓 등 최신 군 기계화 장비와 총포류가 대거 전시되어 시민들의 발길을 사로잡았다.

특히, 군복 착용, 서바이벌 체험, 전차 탑승 등 시민들이 쉽게 접하기 어려운 군 문화를 직접 체험하는 코너에는 남녀노소 할 것 없이 긴 줄이 이어져 행사 당일 약 1만여 명의 시민이 운집하는 성공을 거두었다.

또한, 1군단 군악대 공연, 701특공연대 특공무술 시범, 가수 박도현 및 소리꾼 전영랑 공연이 축제의 흥을 더했으며, 어린이 호국 그림그리기 대회가 함께 진행되어 미래 세대까지 호국보훈 정신을 자연스럽게 공유하는 세대 통합의 장이 마련되었다.

오후 4시 열린 개막식에는 이동환 고양특례시장을 비롯해 권영우 보병9사단장 직무대리(준장), 이명철 제60보병사단장(준장), 한준호·이기헌 국회의원, 도·시의원, 13개 호국보훈안보단체장 및 회원, 일반 시민 등이 대거 참석했다.

개막식에서는 국가유공자들이 먼저 소개됐고, 참석자 전원이 기립박수로 예우를 표하는 감동적인 순간이 연출됐다. 

앞서 오전에는 국가유공자 위로연도 진행돼 그분들의 희생에 감사를 전하는 시간을 가졌다.

조광진 고양시재향군인회장은 "호국영령과 참전용사의 희생을 기리고 그 정신을 현재와 미래 세대에 되살리기 위한 시민과의 소통의 장이었다"고 소감을 밝혔다.
