경기북부보훈지청이 25일 파주시 문산읍에서 고령의 국가유공자를 위한 특별한 봉사활동을 펼쳤다. 

이번 활동은 청소년, 군, 의료단체가 함께 참여해 주거환경 개선과 의료지원을 동시에 제공하는 통합형 보훈봉사로 진행됐다.

이번 봉사활동은 청소년들의 자발적인 기금 마련으로 시작되어 더욱 의미가 깊다. 

지난 6월 한민고 도서 바자회 수익금으로 첫 주거봉사를 진행한 데 이어, 남은 수익금과 유관 기관의 지원을 더해 민·관·군이 협력하는 대규모 봉사활동으로 확대된 것이다.

활동에는 경기북부보훈지청을 중심으로 한민고 JROTC 청소년 동아리, 1보병사단 독수리봉사단, 대한중앙의료봉사회가 참여했다. 

각 단체는 주거 개선, 기초 의료 지원, 세대 간 교류 프로그램을 함께 진행하며 실질적 지원과 정서적 교류를 동시에 실현했다.

이날 지원 대상자는 무공수훈자 양○성(91) 어르신과 참전유공자 임○규(91) 어르신 등 2가구였다. 

고령으로 인해 생활 편의와 건강 관리에 어려움을 겪고 있던 두 어르신은 봉사단의 손길로 한결 나아진 주거환경을 맞이할 수 있었다.

특히 곰팡이가 핀 낡은 벽지가 깨끗하게 교체된 것을 본 양○성 어르신은 "젊은 친구들이 와서 이렇게 깨끗하게 바꿔주니 새집에 온 것 같고 정말 고맙다"며 감사의 마음을 전했다.

경기북부보훈지청 관계자는 "청소년과 군, 의료 등 지역 공동체가 각자의 전문성을 살려 함께해주신 덕분에 뜻깊은 보훈 실천을 할 수 있었다"며 "협력해주신 모든 단체에 깊이 감사드린다"고 밝혔다.

이어 "앞으로도 국가유공자 예우를 위한 현장 중심 활동을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획"이라고 덧붙였다.

이번 봉사활동은 청소년의 자발적 참여에서 시작해 민·관·군의 유기적 협력으로 완성된 보훈봉사의 모범 사례로 평가받고 있다.
