고양시가 경기북부 지역 인공지능(AI) 교육의 새 장을 열었다. 

23일 덕양구 성사동 창조혁신캠퍼스에서 '경기북부 AI 캠퍼스' 개소식이 성황리에 개최됐다.

이날 행사에는 김동연 경기도지사와 이동환 고양시장을 비롯해 김성회·김영환 국회의원, 심홍순 도의원 등 지역 정치인들과 아마존웹서비스(AWS), 시스코, IBM, 네이버클라우드, 마이크로소프트 등 글로벌 테크기업 관계자, 성균관대·한국항공대·한국공학대 관계자 등이 대거 참석했다.

개소식에서는 경기도-고양시-글로벌 테크기업-대학교 간 '경기도 인공지능(AI) 인재양성 파트너십'이 체결됐다.

이를 통해 AI 인재 육성과 산업 생태계 조성에 공동으로 협력한다는 방침이다.

이동환 시장은 지난 3월 경기도 AI 캠퍼스 공모에서 직접 프레젠테이션을 진행하며 유치에 적극 나섰던 만큼, 이번 개소에 남다른 의미를 부여했다.

이 시장은 "경기북부 AI 캠퍼스가 세계적인 AI 인재 양성의 메카는 물론 시민들에게 훌륭한 배움터가 될 수 있도록 지원을 아끼지 않겠다"며 "이번 파트너십을 통해 경기도 인재들이 최적의 환경에서 기술 역량을 키우고, 더 나아가 일산테크노밸리와 고양경제자유구역에서 그 역량을 발휘하여 대한민국을 이끌어갈 미래를 기대한다"고 밝혔다.

경기북부 AI 캠퍼스는 원당역 창조혁신캠퍼스 16층에 약 160평 규모로 조성됐다. 

강의실과 회의실, 체험존, 소통 공간 등 교육과 체험이 가능한 최신 시설을 갖췄다.

특히 이 캠퍼스가 위치한 창조혁신캠퍼스에는 SW미래채움센터, AI 이노베이션센터, 기업 입주센터, 고양연구원 등이 함께 자리해 AI 교육·산업·창업이 선순환하는 지역 AI 클러스터로 발전할 것으로 기대된다.

시는 이번 AI 캠퍼스 개소로 민선8기 미래비전인 'G-노믹스' 정책 구현의 핵심 기반을 구축했다고 평가했다.

오는 25일에는 SW미래채움센터에서 열리는 페스티벌과 함께 AI 전문교육과 SW 체험·학습을 연계할 예정이다.

시는 AI 인재 생태계의 핵심축인 'AI 캠퍼스'와 'SW미래채움센터'를 거점으로 혁신 인프라를 구축하고, AI 교육·산업·창업 허브 도시로 도약해 지역 경제 혁신을 이끌겠다는 목표를 세웠다.
