고양특례시가 'K-컬처밸리 복합개발사업'의 핵심인 T2 아레나 부지 민간사업자로 세계 최대 공연기획사인 라이브네이션 엔터테인먼트·라이브네이션코리아 컨소시엄을 우선협상대상자로 선정하며, 글로벌 공연도시로의 본격적인 도약을 예고했다.

23일 고양시에 따르면, 이동환 시장은 우선협상대상자 선정 발표 자리에서 "대한민국 문화의 미래, K-컬처밸리가 오늘 새로운 도약을 시작했다"며 "라이브네이션 컨소시엄의 선정을 진심으로 축하한다"고 환영의 뜻을 밝혔다.

이날 행사에는 김동연 경기도지사, 김성회‧이기헌 국회의원, 김용진 경기주택도시공사(GH) 사장을 비롯해 스테파니 백스 라이브네이션 아시아 총괄대표, 김형일 라이브네이션코리아 대표 등 주요 관계자들이 대거 참석해 사업의 중요성을 재확인했다.

이동환 시장은 "K-컬처밸리 사업은 10년 전부터 준비해 온 우리 모두의 오랜 염원이자 숙원사업"이라며 "시민들께서 오래 기다리신 만큼 오늘의 성과는 그 기다림의 결실"이라고 강조했다.

그는 이어 "경기도와 고양시가 세계 무대의 새로운 표준을 만들어 가겠다"며 "K-컬처밸리가 완성되면 고양은 세계적 수준의 공연 인프라를 갖춘 '글로벌 공연도시'로 도약하게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.

이 시장은 또한 "체계적이고 전폭적인 행정 지원으로 아레나 공연장이 조속히 완공될 수 있도록 모든 역량을 집중하겠다"고 약속했다.

경기주택도시공사(GH)는 지난 4월 T2 부지(아레나 포함) 민간개발사업자 공모를 진행했으며, 참가의향서를 제출한 4개 기업 가운데 라이브네이션 컨소시엄이 최종 제안서를 접수해 22일 평가위원회를 통해 우선협상대상자로 최종 선정됐다.

앞으로 GH와 라이브네이션 컨소시엄이 기본협약을 체결하면 공사 준비 과정을 거쳐 내년 5월 공사가 재개되고, 2029년 말 준공을 목표로 사업이 본격 추진될 예정이다.

고양시는 이미 글로벌 공연도시로서의 경쟁력을 충분히 입증했다. 지난해 9월 라이브네이션코리아와 문화예술공연 분야 협력 및 동반성장 업무협약(MOU)을 체결한 이후, 세계적인 아티스트들의 대형 공연을 연이어 성공적으로 개최하며 '고양콘(Goyang-Con)'이라는 신조어까지 탄생시켰다.

특히 지난 4월 고양종합운동장에서 열린 콜드플레이 내한 공연은 국내 콘서트 역사상 최다 관객인 32만 명을 기록하며 화제를 모았다. 

지난 21일에는 브릿팝의 전설 오아시스(Oasis) 공연이 열려 전국 각지에서 찾아온 팬들의 뜨거운 호응을 받았다.
