고양특례시가 대한민국 마이스(MICE) 산업의 새로운 전기를 마련한다. 

시는 13일 오는 23일 킨텍스 제3전시장 착공식을 개최하고, 12월부터 본격적인 본공사에 돌입한다고 밝혔다.

이번 착공으로 고양시가 지난 3년간 추진해 온 하드웨어(시설), 소프트웨어(경쟁력), 시스템(조직)을 아우르는 '3대 축'이 완성되며, 명실상부한 글로벌 마이스 허브도시로 도약하게 된다.

착공식에는 정부와 국회, 지자체, 산업계 관계자 등 500여 명이 참석해 국가 마이스 경쟁력 강화를 향한 고양시의 도전을 기념할 예정이다. 

행사는 공사가 진행 중인 킨텍스 3B 부지에서 열리며, 공사 경과보고와 주요 내빈 축사, 발파식이 진행된다.

이동환 고양특례시장은 "이번 킨텍스 제3전시장 착공은 고양 마이스 산업의 새로운 도약점이자 대한민국 마이스 지형을 바꾸는 시작점이 될 것"이라며 "숙박·교통·산업 인프라를 유기적으로 연계해 완성도 높은 체류형 마이스 도시로 발전시키겠다"고 강조했다.

총 17만㎡ 규모, 글로벌 메가 이벤트 유치 가능

킨텍스 제3전시장은 총 사업비 약 6,726억 원이 투입되는 대형 프로젝트로, 지난 3월 기초공사에 착수했으며 2028년 준공을 목표로 추진 중이다.

이번 사업을 통해 3A전시장(4만7천㎡, 4개홀·6개 회의실)과 3B전시장(1만2천㎡, 2개홀)이 조성된다. 

사업이 완료되면 킨텍스는 제1·2·3전시장을 합쳐 총 17만㎡ 규모의 전시공간을 확보하게 되며, 이는 미국 CES, 독일 IFA, 스페인 MWC 등 글로벌 메가 이벤트 유치가 가능한 수준이다.

시는 제3전시장 완료 시 연간 약 6조 4,565억 원의 생산유발 효과와 약 3만 명의 고용 창출 효과가 발생할 것으로 전망했다.

또한 인근 일산테크노밸리, 방송영상밸리, 경제자유구역 개발사업 등과 연계해 산업·문화·관광이 결합된 지역 성장 동력도 강화될 것으로 기대된다.

1,500실 규모 숙박 인프라, 7,400대 주차장 확보

숙박 인프라 확충도 본격화된다. 

킨텍스 인근 부지에는 4성급 노보텔 앰배서더 킨텍스(앵커호텔)가 들어선다. 

지하 1층~지상 19층, 약 300실 규모로 내년 5월 우선 시공에 착수해 6월 본공사에 들어가며, 2029년 완공 예정이다.

완공되면 시는 소노캄 826실, 케이트리 422실과 함께 약 1,500실 규모의 숙박인프라를 보유하게 된다. 

국제회의 참가자, 해외 바이어, 공연 관람객 등 다양한 방문객의 체류 여건이 대폭 개선될 전망이다.

주차 인프라도 대폭 확충된다. 

연면적 41,844㎡, 주차면 약 1,000대 규모의 주차복합빌딩이 내년 1분기 착공한다. 

지난 1일에는 3B전시장과 인접한 약 800대 규모의 임시 옥외주차장이 준공됐다. 

2028년 상반기 주차복합빌딩이 준공되면 킨텍스는 약 7,400대 규모의 주차장을 보유하게 되며, GTX-A 킨텍스역과 직접 연계돼 접근성과 행사 수용 능력이 한층 강화될 것으로 보인다.

최근 3년간 3,996건 행사 성공 개최, 1,694만 명 방문

고양시는 인프라 확충에 앞서 이미 국제무대에서 경쟁력을 입증한 도시로 평가받고 있다.

최근 3년간(2022~2024년) 서울모터쇼, 한-아프리카 정상회의 등 국제행사를 비롯한 국내외 전시·회의 총 3,996건을 성공적으로 개최하며 누적 1,694만 명 이상의 방문객을 끌어들였다.

특히 '콘텐츠 유니버스 코리아', '고양데스티네이션위크' 등 지역 산업과 연계한 융복합형 국제행사를 통해 산업과 콘텐츠를 결합한 고양형 마이스 모델로 정착시켰다.

지난 9월 킨텍스에서 열린 'UCLG ASPAC 고양총회'는 27개국 173개 지방정부와 단체에서 807명이 참가해 기초자치단체 최초의 대규모 국제회의 성공 사례로 기록됐다. 

이번 총회로 고양시는 도시 외교와 글로벌 네트워크 역량을 한층 끌어올렸다는 평가를 받았다.

세계 마이스 목적지 평가 세계 15위, 아태 3위

국제 평가에서도 성과가 뚜렷하다. 

2025 세계 마이스 목적지 지속가능성 지수(GDS-Index) 평가에서 고양시는 세계 15위, 아시아·태평양 지역 3위를 차지했다.

환경·사회·인프라·도시마케팅 등 4개 분야를 종합 평가한 결과로, 참여 도시가 151개로 늘어난 가운데 거둔 성과라 더욱 의미가 크다.

시는 2026~2030년까지 '지속가능성 5개년 계획'을 수립해 아태 1위 달성을 목표로 마이스 산업 발전 전략을 추진한다는 방침이다.

고양국제박람회재단 출범, 마이스·콘텐츠 통합 사령탑 구축

성과와 인프라를 뒷받침할 조직개편도 본격화됐다. 

시는 지난 10월 1일 '고양국제박람회재단'을 공식 출범시켰다.

이는 마이스 전담기구인 고양컨벤션뷰로(CVB)와 대표 콘텐츠 기관인 고양국제꽃박람회재단을 통합해 행사 유치·기획·국제협력·콘텐츠 개발 기능을 한 데 묶은 조직으로, 총 6개팀 29명으로 구성됐다.

재단은 킨텍스 3전시장 완공 시점에 맞춰 바이오·IT·방송영상 등 고양 특화 산업을 주제로 한 '고양형 국제행사'를 기획하고, 글로벌 유치 전략을 총괄하는 역할을 수행한다.

The city announced on the 13th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for KINTEX 3rd Exhibition Center on the 23rd, with main construction commencing in December.

This groundbreaking completes the "three pillars" encompassing hardware (facilities), software (competitiveness), and systems (organization) that Goyang has been pursuing for the past three years, solidifying its position as a global MICE hub.

Sized at 170,000 square meters, capable of attracting global mega-events

KINTEX's 3rd Exhibition Center is a large-scale project with a total investment of approximately KRW 672.6 billion. Groundwork began in March and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

This project will create Exhibition Center 3A (47,000㎡, 4 halls and 6 conference rooms) and Exhibition Center 3B (12,000㎡, 2 halls).
