경상북도인재평생교육재단 김상동 대표이사가 22일 한국언론진흥재단에서 열린 '2025 대한민국 뉴리더대상' 시상식에서 교육부문 수상자로 선정되는 영예를 안았다.

한국신문방송인협회(회장 윤영무)가 주최한 이번 시상식은 '미래를 바꾸는 리더십'을 주제로 국민 삶의 질 향상과 공동체 가치 실현에 기여한 인물을 발굴하고 표창하기 위해 마련됐다.

국제적 연구 감각으로 교육 혁신 주도

김상동 대표이사는 미국 위스콘신대 매디슨에서 박사 학위를 취득한 후, 국제적 연구 감각과 네트워크를 바탕으로 경북대와 경북도립대 총장을 역임하며 교육 혁신을 이끌어온 것으로 평가받고 있다.

특히 그는 해외의 첨단 연구 성과를 국내에 도입하고, 이를 지역 대학 발전과 산업 연계로 확장하는 데 주력해왔다. 

이러한 노력은 경북 지역 청년들에게 글로벌 경쟁력을 부여하는 구체적 성과로 이어졌다는 평가를 받고 있다.

현재 경상북도인재평생교육재단 대표이사로 재직 중인 김 대표이사는 수상 소감을 통해 "앞으로도 지역 인재가 세계로 진출할 수 있도록 교육·연구·행정을 통합하는 혁신적 비전을 펼치겠다"고 포부를 밝혔다.

한국신문방송인협회 관계자는 "이번 시상식을 통해 사회 각 분야에서 묵묵히 공익을 실천하는 리더들의 노고를 조명하고, 이들의 모범 사례가 사회 전반에 긍정적 영향을 미치기를 기대한다"고 밝혔다.

특히 김상동 대표이사의 수상은 지역 교육 발전과 인재 양성에 기여한 교육계 리더십의 중요성을 다시 한번 부각시킨 것으로 평가되고 있다.
