파주시가 청소년복합문화시설인 '운정청소년센터' 조성 공사에 본격 착수했다고 15일 발표했다.

운정청소년센터는 운정행복센터 복지동 4층의 기존 노인복지관과 7층 유휴공간을 리모델링해 조성된다.

 2·4·6·7층에 걸쳐 총 3,245㎡ 규모로 청소년 수요 맞춤형 복합문화공간으로 탈바꿈할 예정이다.

이번 센터는 파주시가 현재 운영 중인 운정청소년문화의집의 확장 버전으로 조성된다. 

기존 운영 기반을 바탕으로 지역 청소년의 다양한 욕구와 미래 역량 강화를 위한 맞춤형 공간과 특화 프로그램을 갖춘 복합시설로 새롭게 단장한다는 것이 파주시의 계획이다.

센터 내부에는 청소년 수요를 적극 반영한 다양한 공간이 배치된다. 

특히 인공지능(AI), 무인기(드론), 가상현실(VR), 로봇, 코딩 등 4차 산업혁명과 연계한 프로그램 전용공간을 마련해 미래 역량 교육에 중점을 둘 예정이다.

이와 함께 북카페, 밴드·댄스 연습실, 요리실습실 등의 문화·여가 공간도 조성해 청소년들의 접근성을 높인다. 

교육프로그램은 물론 창의활동, 스포츠, 동아리활동 등 다양한 프로그램을 제공해 청소년들이 여가와 문화생활을 충분히 즐길 수 있는 환경을 조성한다는 방침이다.

김지숙 파주시 청년청소년과장은 "운정청소년센터에서 미래의 주역인 청소년들이 서로 소통하며 재능과 꿈을 키워가길 바란다"고 말했다.

이어 "교육, 문화, 여가활동을 위한 전용공간 조성으로 청소년의 다양한 수요를 충족시키고, 지역 주민의 휴식공간으로도 활용될 수 있도록 사업 추진에 최선을 다하겠다"고 덧붙였다.

한편 운정청소년센터는 기존 청소년문화의집의 성공적인 운영 경험을 바탕으로 더욱 체계적이고 전문적인 청소년 서비스를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
