국민의힘 진종오 의원(비례대표, 국회 문화체육관광위원회 위원)이 중소규모 공연장의 화재 안전 사각지대 해소를 위해 본격적인 현장 점검에 나섰다.

진 의원은 3일 안양아트센터와 경기아트센터를 차례로 방문해 공연장의 화재 안전 실태를 직접 점검했다고 밝혔다.

이날 진 의원은 안양아트센터에서 방화막 설치 현장을 시찰한 후 경기아트센터로 이동해 기설치된 방화막을 살펴봤다. 

이어 공연 관계자들과 간담회를 갖고 방화막 설치의 필요성과 현장에서 겪는 애로사항을 청취했다.

현재 「공연법」은 1,000석 이상 공연장에만 방화막 설치를 의무화하고 있어, 전체 공연장의 90%에 해당하는 1,000석 미만 공연장은 설치 대상에서 제외되어 있는 실정이다.

문화체육관광부 자료에 따르면 올해 공연 관람객은 약 2,224만 명에 달해, 중소규모 공연장의 안전 사각지대 해소가 시급하다는 지적이 제기되고 있다.

진 의원은 공연장 화재 안전의 심각성을 구체적 수치로 제시했다. 그는 "최근 5년간 공연장 화재 사고가 64건 발생했고, 2023년 서울 공연장 화재에서는 관객이 사망하는 안타까운 사고도 있었다"고 밝혔다.

특히 "대피통로가 협소한 중소규모 공연장은 더 큰 피해가 우려된다"며 현행 법령의 한계를 지적했다.

진 의원은 "공연장의 무대는 관객에게 감동을 주는 공간이지만, 안전이 담보되지 않으면 언제든 위험한 공간이 될 수 있다"고 강조했다.

이어 "안전이 곧 최고의 무대라는 인식을 바탕으로 현장의 목소리를 입법에 반영해 안전한 공연 문화를 만들겠다"고 향후 계획을 밝혔다.

이번 현장 점검을 통해 진 의원은 중소규모 공연장까지 방화막 설치 의무를 확대하는 「공연법」 개정안 마련에 본격 착수할 것으로 예상된다.

Through this on-site inspection, Rep. Jin is expected to begin drafting a revision to the Performance Act that would expand the fire protection installation requirement to small and medium-sized performance venues.
