고양도시관리공사(사장 강승필)가 어린이 교통안전 교육의 혁신을 위해 전국 최초로 '스마트 어린이 교통공원' 조성에 나선다.

공사는 지난 17일 고양시 어린이 교통공원 실내교육장에서 '고양시 스마트 어린이 교통공원 조성 방안 및 어린이 교통안전 교육의 새로운 패러다임'을 주제로 세미나를 개최했다고 23일 밝혔다.

백석동에 위치한 고양시 어린이 교통공원은 현재 매년 약 8,000여 명의 영유아 및 초등학교 저학년을 대상으로 교통안전 교육을 실시하고 있다. 

이번 스마트 교통공원 조성 계획은 공사의 3개년 경영전략 핵심 과제 중 하나로 추진되는 사업이다.

세미나에는 고양시의회 건설교통위원회 김미경 위원장, 김해련 의원을 비롯해 국회 어린이 안전 포럼 허억 사무총장(가천대 교수), 고양시 어린이집 연합회 문영순 회장과 임원진, 교통정책과, SNS 시민기자단, 도시공사 관계자 등 60여 명이 참석했다.

김미경 건설교통위원회 위원장은 "어린이가 안전한 고양시를 만드는 일은 그 어떤 사업보다 우선되어야 한다"며 "첨단 스마트 기술을 접목한 어린이 교통공원 사업은 생명을 지키는 공간을 만드는 것"이라고 강조했다.

허억 국회 어린이 안전포럼 사무총장은 주제발표를 통해 "어린이의 모방성, 조급성 등이 어린이 교통사고의 원인"이라며 "연령에 맞는 스마트 교통안전 교육이 필요하다"고 강조했다. 

그는 '스마트 어린이 교통공원 조성을 통한 생애주기별 체험 교육 강화 방안'을 제시했다.
