독도가 대한의 영토임을 널리 알리기 위한 울릉도-독도 수영종단 21주년 기념행사가 오는 7월 21일부터 24일까지 3박 4일간 울릉군 일원에서 열린다.

이번 행사는 울릉도와 독도 탐방, 축하 공연 등 다채로운 프로그램으로 진행된다.

올해로 21주년을 맞은 울릉도-독도 수영종단 기념행사는 사단법인 영토지킴이독도사랑회가 주최하고 울릉군(남한권 군수)과 울릉군의회(이상식 의장)가 후원하며 동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스 독도사랑봉사단이 협력해 의미를 더한다. 

길종성 회장을 비롯해 울릉군 남한권 군수, 울릉군의회 이상식 의장, 안규철 자문위원장, 홍두표 부회장, 양창의 부회장, 전호정 울산지부장, 이상진 강원도지부장, 박경열 청년위원장과 동국대 길종구 교수, 동경장학회 대학생 및 회원 70여 명이 참여한다. 

‘독도는 우리 땅’의 가수 정광태 교수와 가수 풍금, 조우현 등 독도사랑회 연예인 홍보대사들도 함께한다.

행사는 21일 경주 탐방으로 시작해 22일 독도 정상 탐방과 울릉군민회관에서 열리는 축하 공연, 23일과 24일 울릉도 탐방으로 이어진다.

특히 22일에는 울릉군 사물놀이패의 식전 공연과 함께 기념식과 위문 행사, 축하 공연이 열리며, 정광태 교수, 트로트 가수 풍금, 신인가수 조우현, 울릉도 출신 가수 김정욱, 울릉도아리랑 전승자 황효숙 등이 무대에 올라 분위기를 고조시킬 예정이다.

 마지막 날인 24일에는 ‘독도의 관문인 울릉도의 역사문화 관광도시로서의 역할’을 주제로 토론회가 열린다.

독도사랑회는 2004년과 2005년 두 차례에 걸쳐 각각 28시간과 24시간 만에 울릉도-독도 구간 수영종단을 성공하며 독도 개방의 계기를 마련한 단체다. 

2020년 태풍으로 유실된 독도수영종단 기념비도 2023년 울릉도 도동항 산책로에 재건립했다.

길종성 회장은 “울릉도-독도 수영종단 21주년을 기념해 국민들에게 독도의 중요성을 알리고자 이번 행사를 마련했다”며 “말이 아닌 실천적 행동으로 독도를 지켜야 한다며 많은 분들이 함께해 독도사랑을 나누길 바란다”고 말했다.

2004년부터 함께 수영종단에 참여해온 정광태 교수는 “길종성 회장은 실천으로 독도사에 큰 족적을 남긴 이 시대의 진정한 애국자”라며 “정부가 이제라도 독도에 대한 진정성을 보여주길 바란다”고 강조했다.

독도사랑회는 창립 이후 독도홍보관 건립, 독도사랑천리길 행군, 몽블랑 정상 독도 퍼포먼스 등 독도 수호를 위한 다채로운 활동을 이어가며 독도 전문 단체로 자리매김하고 있다.[고양=박정호 기자]
