파주시가 지난 16일 DMZ생태관광지원센터에서 경기도시장·군수협의회 민선8기 제8차 정기회의를 성공적으로 개최했다고 발표했다.

이번 정기회의는 국민주권정부 출범 이후 처음 열린 정기회의로 특별한 의미를 갖는다.

파주시는 이날 회의를 통해 민선8기 들어 추진해온 주요 정책 성과들을 도내 31개 시군과 공유하며 100만 자족도시로 도약해가는 파주시의 잠재력을 적극 어필했다.

파주시가 이날 발표한 주요 정책 성과는 다음과 같다.

이날 회의는 주광덕 남양주시장이 협의회장으로 주재했으며, 사무국 제안 3건과 경기도 시군 제안 36건 등 총 39건의 안건을 심의했다. 

참석자들은 지역발전과 제도 개선을 위한 다양한 협력 방안을 심도 있게 논의했다.

김경일 파주시장은 환영사를 통해 "파주는 경기도 시군 간의 연대, 화합과 상생을 소망한다"며 경기도 31개 시장·군수들을 진심으로 환영했다.

김 시장은 이어 "기본사회 선도도시로서의 파주시의 정신과 실천이 경기도 전체의 연대와 협력의 토대가 되기를 기원한다"고 말하며, 파주시가 경기도 발전을 선도하는 역할을 하겠다는 의지를 밝혔다.

이번 정기회의는 파주시가 그동안 추진해온 혁신적인 정책들의 성과를 대외적으로 알리고, 경기도 시군 간 협력 체계를 더욱 공고히 하는 계기가 됐다. 

특히 100만 자족도시를 향한 파주시의 비전과 잠재력을 도내 다른 시군에 확실히 각인시키는 성과를 거둔 것으로 평가된다.
