고양특례시가 지구 온난화로 인한 기후위기 극복을 위해 탄소중립 정책의 일환으로 일반시민과 미래세대 대상 환경교육을 추진한다. 

환경보호 가치관 정립과 자발적 실천을 위한 교육과정을 지속 확대할 방침이다.

이동환 고양특례시장은 “인류의 생존이 걸린 기후위기에 적극적으로 대응하기 위해 시민과 함께 실천할 수 있는 환경정책을 추진한다”며 “시민들이 직접 기후위기 대응의 필요성과 실천을 공유하며 기후위기 대응에 앞장서는 선한 영향력을 미칠 것으로 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

유아부터 성인까지 생애 주기별 환경교육…지속가능한 지구를 위한 실천

시는 시민들이 기후위기를 공감하고 생활 속에서 친환경 정책을 실천할 수 있도록 시민 환경지도자 양성에 노력을 기울이고 있다. 

고양시 환경교육센터는 환경부로부터 자연환경해설사 양성기관으로 지정받아 기본양성과정에서 작년 말까지 시민 330명을 환경분야 전문인력으로 양성했다.

지역환경교육센터, 환경 단체, 람사르 장항습지 생태관과 협력하여 생동감 있는 교육 또한 운영한다. 

시는 유아부터 성인까지 체계적인 친환경 교육으로 가치관을 정립하고 실천할 수 있도록 유도한다. 

고양시 생애주기별 환경교육은 씨앗이 새싹을 틔워 나무가 되는 과정처럼 씨앗(유아)-새싹(초등학생)-트리(청소년)-기후환경학교(성인)로 연령별 환경교육 체계를 구축했다. 

특히, 성인 기후환경학교는 해를 거듭하며 시민들의 관심이 집중되고 있다. 

지난해 7~8월 8주 동안 진행한 「고양시 기후환경학교, 학자에게 듣다, 기후위기 현재와 미래」과정에는 무더운 날씨에도 불구하고 누적인원 1,475명이 참여했다.

시는 체계적인 교육을 위해 「고양시 환경교육 기본 계획」을 선도적으로 수립하고 ▲환경교육 기반 강화 ▲공교육과 함께하는 환경교육 ▲사회환경교육 확대 ▲환경교육 협력 확대 등 4개 영역의 세부계획을 마련했다.

환경교육은 환경에 대한 바른 가치관 형성을 돕는 과정으로 학교 교과과정과 연계하면 교육효과를 배가시킨다.

시는 유아(누리과정), 초등, 중등 교과과정을 분석하여 프로그램을 직접 개발했으며 환경부 심사를 통해 우수환경교육 선정되어 공신력을 확보했다.
