고양시재향군인회는 6월 4일 호국보훈의달을 맞아 일산서구 덕이동 소재 고양시현충공원을 찾아 순국선열과 호국영령에 분향·참배하고 현충공원 정화작업과 태극단 순국단원 묘비 청소 등을 실시하는 ‘영웅과 함께 GO! GO! GO!’ 봉사활동을 펼쳤다.

행사에는 고양시재향군인회 임직원 및 이사와 회원, 향군여성회원 등 30여 명이 참여했다.

이날 참석자들은 현중탑을 시작으로 무명용사 충혼탑 그리고 태극단 순국단원 추모비 순으로 참배했다.

이어서 현충공원 내·외부 환경정화와 묘지 잡초제거와 뒷처리 그리고 묘비에 뭍은 얼룩 등을 젓은 수건과 마른 수건으로 정성껏 닦아냈다.

이영섭 고양시재향군인회 사무국장은 “호국보훈의달 6월을 맞이해 호국영령의 고귀한 희생을 기억하고 그 애국정신을 기리는 ‘영웅과 함께 GO! GO! GO!’ 캠페인을 많은 분들과 함께할 수 있어 기뻤다”며 “앞으로도 지속적으로 호국보훈의 책임과 의무를 다해 나가는 고양시재향군인회가 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.

고양시재향군인회 관계자는 “올해부터 향군 본부가 중점적으로 추진하는 지역사회에 공헌하고 시민들과 함께 하기 위한 ‘가꾸고, 나누고, 기억하는 향군 GO! GO! GO!’ 봉사활동이 회원들과 시민들의 호응을 얻으며 순조롭게 진행되고 있다”고 전했다.

한편 현재 대한민국재향군인회가 본부, 광역 그리고 기초단체 조직 단위까지 실시중인 ‘가꾸고, 나누고, 기억하는 향군 GO! GO! GO!’ 활동은 연중 지속적으로 실시되고 있다. 

구체적으로 4월에는 ‘꽃과 함께 GO! GO! GO!’와  6월에는 ’영웅과 함께 GO! GO! GO!‘을 진행했고 8월에는 ‘태극기와 함께 GO! GO! GO!’, 12월에는 ‘이웃과 함께 GO! GO! GO!’ 등 계절별로 테마를 정해 조직단위별로 진행될 계획이다.[고양=박정호 기자]
