운정4동은 지난 20일 통장협의회, 주민자치회, 체육회 회원 30여명과 함께 상지석동 442-6 일원의 생태계 교란 외래식물 제거 활동을 실시했다.

이 지역은 평소 주민들의 통행이 많은 지역으로 단풍잎 돼지풀, 가시박 등이 서식하여 주변 미관을 해칠 뿐 아니라, 주민들의 호흡기 질환을 유발하는 등 우려가 제기되어 왔다.

이에 운정4동의 여러 주민단체들이 개화 이전에 식물을 뿌리째 뽑아 종자 확산 차단에 발 벗고 나섰다. 

이날 활동에 참여한 운정4동 통장협의회, 주민자치회, 체육회 회원들은 지역 주민들이 ‘내 집앞, 내 땅은 내가 지킨다’라는 마음으로 마을 주변 외래식물 제거 활동에 주민들이 지속적으로 참여하도록 독려하는 활동을 이어갈 계획이다.

최호진 운정4동장은 “생태계교란 외래식물 제거 사업은 한 번으로 가볍게 해결될 문제가 아니므로 우리 모두가 꾸준히 노력해야 한다고 생각한다”라며 “꾸준히 야생식물 제거활동을 실시해 쾌적한 환경이 조성될 수 있도록 더욱 힘쓰겠다”라고 말했다. 

운정4동은 시 중점사업으로 추진하고 있는 생태계교란 외래식물 제거 사업의 확대를 위해 “생태계교란 야생식물 제거의 날”을 지정해 정기적인 활동을 추진할 계획이다.[파주=빅정호 기자]
