고양특례시는 지역교육의 혁신과 발전을 위해 ‘고양시 특목고 설립 추진 전담팀(TF)을 구성하고 지난 14일 실무회의를 개최했다.

고양시 교육 환경을 더욱 풍요롭게 만들고 학생들에게 다양한 교육 기회를 제공하는데 뜻을 함께한 경기도의회 도의원, 고양시의회 시의원, 고양교육지원청 및 고양시청 관계자를 비롯한 민간단체, 전문가 등으로 ‘고양시 특목고 설립 추진 전담팀(TF)’을 구성하였다.

박원석 고양시 제1부시장 주재로 개최된 이번 회의에서 전담팀은 고양시 과학고 설립 정책을 공유하고 추진 전략을 논의했다. 

이어서 ▲전문가 정책제안 ▲고양시 특목고 설립 필요성 공유 ▲범시민 과학고 설립 공론화 ▲고양시 과학고 지정을 위한 활동 건의 등을 진행했다.

회의에 참석한 김종성 교수는 “미래를 바꾸는 힘과 원동력은 바로 교육에 있다. 특목고 설립을 통한 인재 양성도 중요하지만 다른 분야와 시너지를 낼 수 있는 환경 또한 중요하다. 고양시는 특목고 설립 적합지로서 당위성이 크다.”고 말했다.

김보경 평생교육과장은 “전담팀이 활동할 때 협조가 유기적으로 이루어질 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

한편, 고양시는 지난 8월 시정연구원에 특목고 설립 조사·분석 연구과제를 신청했다. 

시는 시민 설문조사를 실시하는 등 특목고 설립을 위한 기초 조사 및 여론 수렴활동을 이어나가고 있다.

고양시는 추진단 활동에 박차를 가하기 위해 오는 10월 특목고 추진단 발대식 및 세미나를 개최할 예정이다.[고양=박정호 기자]
