파주시는 25일 시민회관 대공연장에서 6.25전쟁의 역사적 의미를 상기하고 자유와 평화를 다짐하기 위해 ‘6.25전쟁 제73주년 행사’를 가졌다.

이날 행사에는 김경일 파주시장을 비롯해 6.25참전용사, 내외빈, 보훈안보단체장 및 회원, 기관단체장, 군인, 학생 등 500여 명이 참석한 가운데 파주소년소녀합창단 식전 공연을 시작으로 기수단 입장, 국민의례, 참전유공자 및 모범군인 등 표창, 대회사, 기념사, 기념 공연, 6.25의 노래 제창 순으로 진행됐다.

오철환 6.25참전유공자회 파주시지회장은 대회사에서 “우리가 6.25전쟁의 역사적 의미를 되새기는 이유는 투철한 안보 의식으로 이 나라를 지키기 위함이며, 이 땅의 평화를 지키고 경제를 발전시켜 나가는 것이 6.25참전 영웅들의 고귀한 희생과 헌신에 보답하고 그 숭고한 정신을 받드는 길이다”라고 말했다.

김경일 파주시장은 기념사를 통해 “정전 70주년을 맞는 올해, 6.25전쟁의 아픔과 상처를 극복하기 위한 노력은 기억에서 시작되며, 참전용사분들의 국가를 위한 용기와 헌신을 계승해, 아픔을 회복하고 평화가 커지는 미래로 나아가겠다”라고 전했다.

한편 파주시는 매년 6.25전쟁 행사를 개최해 참전용사들의 명예와 자긍심을 고취하고 시민들에게 전쟁의 참상과 평화의 중요성을 알리고 있다.[파주=박정호기자]
