Army 1st Infantry Division’s "Doksuri" Volunteer Group Shares Warmth with Families of Veterans for Chuseok
- From delivering holiday gifts to home repairs... "We will not forget the dedication of our predecessors."
- Moving beyond one-off service to regular visits and housing improvements... continuing a commitment to honoring veterans.
In celebration of the Chuseok holiday, the "Doksuri" (Eagle) Volunteer Group of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division visited the families of veterans who had previously served in the division to convey their gratitude and respect.
According to the Northern Gyeonggi Veterans Affairs Office, soldiers from the volunteer group visited the homes of veterans' spouses ahead of Chuseok to check on their well-being and deliver holiday gifts.
Notably, this volunteer activity went beyond a simple holiday visit.
The soldiers worked hard to improve the families' living conditions by repairing aging facilities and personally participating in home renovation tasks.
The Doksuri Volunteer Group has consistently carried out various home improvement projects—such as roof repairs and replacing wallpaper and flooring—for the families of veterans who dedicated themselves to the nation.
They maintain ongoing connections rather than providing one-time support, revisiting the families during holidays to check on their well-being even after the repair work is completed.
These efforts are particularly meaningful as they honor the sacrifices and dedication of veterans while demonstrating respect and care for their surviving families. One soldier participating in the volunteer work said, "I believe that honoring the spirit of our predecessors who dedicated themselves to the nation and consistently looking after their families is the true practice of honoring veterans," adding, "I will continue to visit them to express my gratitude."
Park Yong-ju, head of the Gyeonggi Northern Veterans Affairs Office, stated, "I am deeply grateful for the ongoing efforts of the 'Eagle Volunteer Corps,' who remember and visit the families of deceased veterans every holiday season." He added, "We will continue to work with the local community to foster a culture of honoring veterans where they and their families are treated with respect and dignity."
As the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs continues to pay its respects to veterans and their families—including through personal visits during the holidays—the Eagle Volunteer Corps of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division also plans to carry out various volunteer activities, such as home environment improvements and holiday support visits.
This activity was particularly meaningful as it provided an opportunity for younger soldiers to personally remember and repay the sacrifices made by their predecessors who served the nation.
Notably, these efforts go beyond one-off holiday visits, evolving into ongoing relationships and practical support for daily living, thereby serving as a heartwarming example of spreading a culture of honoring veterans within the local community.
