Rediscovering Haengjusanseong Fortress Under Starlight: "Goyang National Heritage Night – Haengju-ga Yesul-iya" Kicks Off October 9

- 10-day event featuring the "7 Nights" (7-Ya) theme: a blend of history, culture, performances, and media art

- Activities range from child docents and "Path to the Past" tours to AI media art and rice ball making—a festival fostering mutual growth with local businesses

"Goyang National Heritage Night – Haengju-ga Yesul-iya" (meaning "Haengju Street is Art" / "Haengju Night is Art"), the signature nighttime cultural heritage festival of Goyang Special City, will take place at Haengjusanseong Fortress for ten days, from October 9 to 18.

Held under the theme "Haengju Under Starlight," the festival runs daily from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with the last admission at 9:00 PM.

A diverse array of programs combining history, arts, culture, and nighttime tourism content will be staged at key locations within the fortress, including Chunguijeong Pavilion and the Great Victory Memorial Hall at the summit.

This year, the festival content has been significantly enhanced by expanding the program from the previous "5 Nights" (5-Ya) format to a "7 Nights" (7-Ya) system, adding "Nighttime Art" (Ya-hwa) and "Nighttime Food" (Ya-sik) to the lineup.

The "Night Scenery" (Ya-gyeong) program will showcase a new side of Haengjusanseong Fortress on autumn nights through landscape lighting illuminating eight major landmarks.

In the "Night History" (Ya-sa) program, ten children interested in history will participate as docents, explaining the history and significance of the Battle of Haengju to their peers at the Great Victory Memorial Hall in a way that resonates with young visitors. Students majoring in Theater and Film at Joongbu University will dress up as historical figures—such as General Kwon Yul and leaders of the righteous armies—and stage on-site performances to deepen visitors' immersion in the festival atmosphere.

As part of the "Yaro" (Night Path) program, the "Haengju Past-Exam Road" offers visitors the chance to walk the "Scholar’s Path" and "General’s Path" accompanied by a cultural tourism commentator, while listening to the historical stories of Haengju Fortress.

A stargazing program, organized in collaboration with the Korea Aerospace University astronomy club, will also be available, offering a unique experience under the autumn night sky at Haengju Fortress.

Nighttime performances will take place at Chunguijeong Pavilion, located at the summit, as part of the "Yaseol" (Night Story/Performance) program.

Kicking off with a demonstration by a Taekwondo team, the lineup includes diverse performances—such as the Goyang City Boys and Girls Choir and fusion Korean traditional music—creating a stage where historical heritage and culture-arts blend harmoniously.

The newly introduced "Yahwa" (Night Art) and "Yasik" (Night Food) programs are also drawing attention.

"Yahwa" features media art videos showcasing the "Eight Scenic Views of Goyang," reinterpreted through AI technology and displayed on a large screen.

By integrating cutting-edge technology into a traditional heritage site, the program aims to present the history of Haengju Fortress and the beautiful landscapes of Goyang in a fresh, innovative way.

"Yasik" features the "Haengju Run-cation" program, which draws inspiration from the Battle of Haengju and the legend of "Grandma Bap" (Grandma Rice).

Participants can make and taste rice balls and traditional beverages, naturally engaging with the history and stories associated with Haengju Fortress.

Programs aimed at revitalizing the local economy are also being strengthened. During the festival, a night market program called "Haengju Haenghwa-gil" will operate, featuring the eateries of Haengju Fortress and local businesses in the Haengju-oe-dong area.

Participating businesses will offer extended operating hours and discounts, and visitors who spend 30,000 won or more at local shops during the event will receive a commemorative gift.

This festival is significant not only for showcasing national heritage but also for being a collaborative night-time cultural event—involving the public sector, local businesses, universities, and residents—that is co-created by the community.

Min Kyung-sun, Mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "We aim to develop this into a festival that fosters mutual growth, creating a virtuous cycle between culture and the local economy through the active participation of residents, students, and business owners." He added, "We will continue to strengthen Goyang City's unique night-time tourism offerings."

Meanwhile, certain programs such as "Haengju Gwageo-gil" (Haengju State Exam Road) and "Haengju Run-cation" require advance reservations, which can be made via the Goyang City integrated reservation website.

Through this festival, Goyang City plans to combine the historical value of Haengju Fortress with night-time tourism and cultural arts content, establishing the site as a premier night-time cultural heritage destination for both citizens and tourists to enjoy.
