Goyang City Proposes 15.3 Billion Won Increase in 2027 State Funding; Prioritizing Flood-Prone Area Improvements

Mayor Min Gyeong-seon Delivers Policy Proposal to National Assembly Budget Committee Chair Lee Kwang-jae; Requests Support for Four Projects, Including Flood Risk Mitigation in Gangmae and Daehwa

Goyang Special City has launched a full-scale effort to secure state funding for 2027, aiming to proactively address disaster risks—such as those from torrential rains linked to climate change—and ensure the smooth implementation of key projects.

The city announced that Mayor Min Gyeong-seon met with Lee Kwang-jae, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, during a budget policy meeting held by the Democratic Party of Korea’s Gyeonggi Provincial Committee on September 30. There, he delivered a policy proposal requesting an additional 15.3 billion won in state funding for four major projects slated for 2027.

The meeting was organized to share key issues and financial requests from local governments in the Gyeonggi region ahead of the National Assembly’s review of the 2027 government budget proposal.

Mayor Min and 19 other mayors from Gyeonggi Province affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea attended the event.

Mayor Min requested increased state support, focusing on four major initiatives, including improvement projects to mitigate natural disaster risks in the Gangmae and Daehwa areas.

He particularly emphasized that, given the rising risk of localized torrential rains and flooding due to climate change, improvement projects for flood-prone areas are crucial for protecting citizens' lives and property and must be implemented in a timely manner. The city plans to proactively eliminate hazards in areas prone to flooding and establish a response framework to minimize potential damage through the improvement of zones designated as high-risk for natural disasters.

To this end, the city actively requested support to ensure that the maximum amount of state funding is allocated for these projects during the National Assembly's budget review process.

Mayor Min urged the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts to take an interest in and cooperate with the city's key projects, ensuring they are thoroughly discussed and reflected in the government budget.

Mayor Min Gyeong-seon stated, "Securing stable state funding is paramount to ensuring that Goyang City's key projects proceed on schedule and yield tangible results that citizens can truly experience." He added, "We will continue to communicate closely with the central government, the National Assembly, and Gyeonggi Province to do our utmost in securing the necessary resources for regional development."

Goyang City intends to persist in its efforts to secure state funding for major projects, aiming to alleviate its financial burden while accelerating initiatives dedicated to citizen safety and regional development.
