Munsan Library Hosts Literary Talk with Author Lee Soon-won on the 17th

Third Event in the Resident Writer Series, "It’s Okay to Face Each Other," Moderated by Writer Shin Ju-hee

On the 17th, Paju Munsan Library will host a literary talk titled "It’s Okay to Face Each Other" featuring novelist Lee Soon-won; this marks the third event in the library's special program series featuring a resident writer.

The discussion centers on Lee’s novel *Two Girls* (*Du Sonyeo*). Participants will explore the work alongside the author, reflecting on the significance that memories of the past hold for the present. The session will be moderated by novelist Shin Ju-hee, the library's resident writer.

The novel depicts the lives of people who were stripped of their language and names and forced to part ways with friends. It has been praised for quietly illuminating the wounds of that era through the lens of the two girls' friendship, effectively layering the weight of history onto a lyrical writing style.

Lee made his literary debut in 1985 through the *Gangwon Ilbo* New Writer’s Contest. Based in Gangneung, he has consistently explored themes of nature and introspection in his work. He is the recipient of the Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award, the Dong-ri Literary Award, and the Hwang Sun-won Literary Award; his representative works include *Eunbiryeong*, *The Road Walked with My Son*, and *The Woman from Sapporo*.

Library Director Lee In-sook stated, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity to reflect on both the pain of the times and the value of life through literature."
