Goyang City Partners with Four Organizations (Industry, Academia, Research, Government) to Accelerate Future Mobility Industry Ecosystem
- MOU signed with Joongbu University, KASA, GEAN, and Goyang Industry Promotion Agency
- Cooperation spans technology demonstration (autonomous driving, drones, UAM) to business attraction, talent development, and overseas expansion
Goyang Special City is joining forces with key organizations across industry, academia, research, and government to leap forward as a demonstration city leading the future mobility industry.
On the 30th, Goyang City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at City Hall to establish a future mobility industry ecosystem. The agreement involved four organizations: Joongbu University, the Korea Automotive Mobility & Safety Association (KASA), the Global e-Mobility Association Network (GEAN), and the Goyang Industry Promotion Agency.
Approximately 20 people attended the signing ceremony, including Goyang Special City Mayor Min Gyeong-seon, Joongbu University President Lee Jeong-yeol, KASA President Ha Seong-yong, GEAN President Kim Dae-hwan, and Goyang Industry Promotion Agency President Han Dong-gyun.
This agreement aims to build a sustainable industry ecosystem and identify joint projects in the future mobility sector by leveraging the policy capabilities, technical expertise, professional knowledge, and global networks of each participating organization.
Under the agreement, the organizations will jointly develop mid-to-long-term strategies and government projects to foster the future mobility industry. They also agreed to cooperate on technology development, testing, evaluation, and demonstration—as well as safety assessments and regulatory research—across sectors such as electric vehicles, autonomous driving, drones, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Cooperation across the industry will also be pursued in areas such as attracting leading domestic and international companies and research/investment institutions, co-hosting international exhibitions and conferences, fostering specialized talent and commercializing technology, nurturing startups and venture firms, and supporting overseas expansion and exports.
During the meeting held after the signing ceremony, discussions covered the direction of Goyang City’s future mobility industry development, plans for collaborative ties among northern metropolitan area municipalities—including Goyang, Paju, and Gimpo—and strategies to build tailored industrial infrastructure that delivers tangible benefits to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Goyang City plans to link this agreement with its ongoing "Hub-type Smart City Development Project" to establish a virtuous industrial cycle that encompasses everything from future mobility technology development and testing/demonstration to startup incubation, corporate attraction, and overseas expansion.
In particular, the city aims to expand the testing infrastructure for future transportation technologies—such as autonomous driving, drones, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM)—thereby creating an industrial environment where related companies and research institutions congregate and young talent can grow.
Min Kyung-sun, Mayor of Goyang Special City, stated, "New mobility technologies like autonomous driving, drones, and UAM are transforming not only the industry but the very structure of the city." He added, "By actively cooperating with the government and relevant agencies, we will build a 'demonstration city' that attracts companies, allows young talent to nurture their dreams, and enables citizens to be the first to experience cutting-edge technologies."
Leveraging this agreement, Goyang City envisions growing into a hub for the future mobility industry in the northern metropolitan area by organically connecting technology, talent, companies, and investment capabilities within the sector.
