Paju City Appoints Two New Members to Citizens' Grievance Committee... "Strengthening Protection of Citizens' Rights"
- Former officials Kwon Hyuk-ju and Park Dae-sung appointed; four-year term begins October 1
- Resolving citizen grievances by investigating unlawful or unfair administrative actions and recommending corrective measures
Paju City has appointed two new members to its Citizens' Grievance Committee to handle citizens' complaints more fairly and independently.
On the 29th, Paju City announced the official appointment of Kwon Hyuk-ju, former head of the Paju City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council, and Park Dae-sung, a former member of the 7th and 8th Paju City Council, as new members of the committee.
The two newly appointed members will serve a four-year term starting October 1. From the perspective of citizens, they will examine various grievances arising during administrative processes and review unreasonable systems.
The Paju City Citizens' Grievance Committee is an independent body established in 2019 to safeguard citizens' rights and interests.
Its role involves investigating facts when citizens' rights are infringed upon by unlawful or unfair administrative actions or unreasonable systems, and—where necessary—issuing recommendations for corrective action or offering opinions to relevant agencies.
In particular, the committee acts as a bridge, mediating conflicts between citizens and administrative agencies from an objective standpoint and conveying the voices of citizens who might otherwise fall into administrative blind spots.
The appointments followed a process that included an open call for candidates, a suitability review, and consent from the Paju City Council.
Paju City aims to enhance the fairness and professionalism of grievance resolution by appointing individuals who possess diverse field experience and expertise. At the appointment ceremony, Paju Mayor Son Bae-chan said, "I hope the members will faithfully convey the voices of citizens and impartially examine the facts to ensure the protection of citizens' rights and interests," adding, "I urge you to steadfastly fulfill your roles with a balanced perspective throughout your term."
With the appointment of these new members, Paju City plans to more actively address the various inconveniences and grievances citizens encounter during administrative processes and further strengthen a citizen-centered, fair, and trustworthy grievance handling system.
