Paju Central Library Launches "Heart Garden" Program for Seniors
Paju Central Library is offering a program called "Heart Garden," designed to help seniors experience the joy of reading and care for their emotional well-being by combining picture books with gardening activities.
The program will take place on the 29th and 30th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the "Creative Table" on the library's fifth floor and is open to seniors aged 55 and older. Participants will read plant-themed picture books together and then create their own gardens using provided plant kits. The program is structured to help seniors reflect on their daily lives with plants through the stories in the books, express their emotions through gardening, and find emotional stability and enjoyment.
Activities include reading picture books together, coloring, creating a personal "Heart Garden," and sharing stories while appreciating each other's finished works. Through these activities, participants can examine their inner feelings while tending to plants and enjoy opportunities for natural communication and experience-sharing with fellow participants.
In addition, the library is organizing an exhibition of picture books that are accessible to seniors yet enjoyable for everyone from children to adults, providing an opportunity for both program participants and general library visitors to explore a diverse range of picture books.
Gu Ja-jeong, Director of the Central Library, stated, "I hope seniors will feel more familiar with reading through picture books and take time to care for their hearts while tending to plants during gardening activities." He added, "We will continue to strive to integrate reading naturally into citizens' daily lives through programs that combine books with various activities."
