Paju Munsan Library Hosts "Happy First Birthday" Event to Mark First Anniversary

A diverse range of performances, hands-on activities, and reading programs scheduled from September 14 to October 31.

To celebrate its first anniversary, Paju Munsan Library is hosting a commemorative event titled "Happy First Birthday" from September 14 to October 31, inviting citizens to join in the festivities.

The library reopened in its current location in Dangdong-ri—having relocated and expanded from its original site in Munsan-ri—on September 30 of last year. This event was organized to express gratitude to the citizens who have cherished the library and to bring the library closer to the community as a local cultural hub where people and books connect.

The event title, "Happy First Birthday," reflects the library's desire to celebrate its first anniversary with the public. Over the course of two months, a variety of performances, hands-on activities, and citizen-participation programs will take place throughout the library.

Kicking things off, the "Calling All Birthday Celebrants!" program will run from September 14 to October 1 at the "Media Wall," an open space on the first floor. The library plans to collect stories from patrons whose birthdays coincide with the library's opening date (September 30), as well as congratulatory messages from their families and acquaintances, and display them on the Media Wall screen.

Following this, the "Ahn Hyung-soo Trio Autumn Concert" will be held on September 17 at 7:00 PM in the "Base Camp" area on the first floor. Guitarist Ahn Hyung-soo, violinist Go Jin-young, and cellist Choi Ha-eun will take the stage to create an autumnal atmosphere with their string melodies. After the performance, a literacy program is scheduled to follow, allowing attendees to express the emotions they felt during the concert in writing. On September 18, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the library will host a unique program titled "Quietly Follow Me to the Library!"—an event held with the lights turned off during the library's usual closure day. Organized in collaboration with students from nearby Munsan High School and Paju High School, this literacy program for youth will feature a lecture by Lee Seung-hwa, author of *Literacy Lectures for the Dopamine Generation*. It promises a distinctive library experience, including time for immersive reading in "reading tents" set up between the bookshelves.

In the latter part of the event series, running from September 30 to October 31, two programs will take place in the open space on the first floor: "Filling the First-Birthday Gift Box" and "A Chance Sentence." "Filling the First-Birthday Gift Box" invites citizens to share their thoughts on what kind of "first-birthday gift" they would like to give to Munsan Library, alongside their impressions of using the facility. Meanwhile, "A Chance Sentence" allows participants to randomly draw bookmarks from a box—each featuring a quote selected by librarians—offering the joy of unexpectedly encountering a meaningful sentence in their daily lives.
