파주시가 공릉천 하구의 우수한 생태적 가치를 보전하면서 지역경제 활성화까지 도모하기 위한 ‘공릉천 생태탐방로 조성사업’의 본격적인 추진에 나섰다.

파주시는 지난 26일 시청에서 관계 공무원과 민·관·군 전문가 등이 참석한 가운데 ‘기본설계 용역 착수보고회 및 거버넌스 회의’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 회의는 공릉천 생태탐방로 조성사업의 기본설계 방향과 추진계획을 공유하고, 사업 초기 단계부터 다양한 분야의 의견을 수렴해 향후 국비 확보를 위한 기반을 마련하기 위해 추진됐다.

공릉천 생태탐방로 조성사업은 송촌교에서 영천교까지 공릉천 하구 약 6.5km 구간을 대상으로 추진된다. 

특히 이 일대에 형성된 철새도래지와 먹이터 등 생태자원을 중심으로 자연환경을 최대한 보전하면서 시민과 방문객들이 생태환경을 체험하고 관찰할 수 있는 친환경 탐방 공간을 조성하는 것이 핵심이다.

이를 위해 사업 구간에는 생태환경을 가까이에서 살펴볼 수 있는 전망대와 관찰용 덱, 관찰 망원경, 공존 쉼터 등 생태 관람과 휴식을 위한 시설이 들어설 예정이다.

파주시는 이번 기본설계 용역을 통해 현장 여건과 생태환경을 면밀히 분석하고 구체적인 설계안을 마련한다는 계획이다. 

이후 2027년 지역특별회계 국고보조사업의 생태 분야 지정을 이끌어내 국비 확보에도 적극 나설 방침이다.

특히 사업 추진 과정에서 민·관·군이 함께 참여하는 거버넌스 회의를 지속적으로 운영해 현장의 목소리를 설계에 적극 반영할 예정이다. 

이를 통해 생태환경 보전이라는 사업의 기본 취지를 지키면서도 이용자의 편의성과 사업의 공공성, 효율성을 함께 높인다는 구상이다.

파주시는 공릉천 하구가 철새 등 다양한 생물이 서식하는 생태적으로 중요한 공간인 만큼 시설물 설치 과정에서도 자연환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화하는 데 중점을 둘 계획이다. 

아울러 생태탐방로가 조성되면 시민들의 생태체험 기회가 확대되고 외부 방문객 유입을 통한 지역 관광 활성화와 지역경제 발전에도 도움이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
